Introduction Welcome to the inaugural Connemara Pony Elite Sale. The Connemara Pony has travelled a long way, from its rugged, rural roots on the mountainsides of Connemara, to the pinnacles of equestrian society and competition around the world. We of the Connemara Pony Elite Sales Group are both excited and honoured to be another step in that journey. It is our intention to improve and assist, in whichever way we can, the marketing and selling of the Connemara. We believe this breed to be the top performance pony in the world - if we can bring them to market, the pony will do the rest. The ponies you will see presented today have been selected from a large pool, chosen as suitable by some of the most respected names in Irish equestrianism. They have proven themselves as present or future performers, and are pre-vetted and x-rayed before attending today’s Sale. We have been delighted with the wonderful feedback and support that we have received in bringing this sale to fruition. The good-will from all sides of the industry has been fantastic. We are confident that this evening will be a success, and will serve as a solid foundation in making this Sale an annual event. We hope you all have a wonderful day, that you enjoy the company, and that you find that special pony! The Connemara Pony Elite Sales Group. Timetable / Other Information All ponies will be on-hand for showcasing from 10am until 6pm. Every pony will have 15 minutes of solo access to a performance arena laid out according to their chosen discipline. The Loose Jumpers will display as a co-ordinated group later in the day (approx. 5pm) in the indoor sand arena. Open areas will be available for ponies to be walked or trotted out for potential clients. The arenas will be closed from 6pm, to give everyone a chance for a break before the Sale commences in the Ardilaun Hotel at 8pm. Access to the Sale is completely open to the public, and tickets will be made available in advance for those that wish to book a table and a meal for the event. In addition to this the ridden ponies will have a set of digital X-rays as set out on sale catalogue which must be forwarded to [email protected] before the sale. These x-rays will be available for purchasers to inspect prior to the sale. Purchasers will have the right, within 30 minutes of the fall of the hammer, to request a blood analysis, to detect pain killing, anti-inflammatory or performance altering drugs. The purchaser should contact the Sales Office to arrange the above examination. If the result is positive, the animal is returned and the vendor shall be barred from all future sales. Each set will contain the following views: FRONT LEG Lateral and AP views of Fetlock; Pastern; and Coffin joints; Upright Navicular view. HIND LEG Lateral stifle; hock views: lateral posterior and medial posterior views. Before the Sale the radiographs can be emailed to prospective purchasers on request. 8 Veterinary Inward Buyer Programme Horse Sport Ireland provides refunds of air or ferry travel costs to the purchasers of horses and ponies registered in a studbook licensed by the Department of Agriculture in the Republic of Ireland in respect of horses or ponies for export at auction sales, or at certain international shows, subject to the conditions outlined below. Note: The refund rate cannot exceed the cost of the ticket The maximum rate of refund is as follows: • Great Britain claimants - €65 • European mainland claimants - €160 • USA & Australia claimants - €415 Application forms should be completed by the applicant and by a representative of the sales company or international show with the following documentation: • A copy of air/ferry ticket (clearly showing the cost of both inward and outward journeys) • Completion of the relevant section of the application form by each claimant, stating the names and addresses of each claimant travelling together • In relation to buyers who travel by ferry and who purchase and export five or more horses, a maximum refund of €325 will apply, provided the ferry ticket cost €325 or more • Once the show is over the applicant has two months in which to get their application processed • Applications for claim must be sent by the applicant directly to Horse Sport Ireland, First Floor, Beech House, Millennium Park, Osberstown, Naas, Co. Kildare for processing. In order for eligibility under this programme the purchase price per lot must exceed €2,500 before taxes and VAT. The Programme shall apply to a purchaser who buys three or more lots per day exceeding a cumulative value of €6,000 before taxes and VAT. Ian Fearon is a High Performance (Lvl. 3) Coach and HSI Tutor. He has managed and coached Show-Jumping and Eventing teams, as well as Children on Horses European Teams, achieving Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals. Tom Slattery has huge experience as an international rider having featured in many Irish Nations’ Cup teams. He was also National Show Jumping Champion in 1999, 2000 and 2001. He is currently a Horse Sport Ireland accredited coach. In the past he has acted as Chef d’Equipe and team trainer for the senior show jumping team and has previously acted as the Chef d’Equipe for Ireland’s pony teams. Can't believe we are in the final quarter of 2020. It's been a unique year to say the least. Lots of new challenges for sure. Last week we had beautiful weather and the trees were just outstanding in there fall colors. Today as I write this, there's a strong wind stripping the leaves from the trees and temperatures are predicted to drop into the low teens tomorrow night...and it's not even Halloween yet! Not ready for water tank heaters and pony blankets! Though a lot of events had been canceled, the ACPS committees have been using the time to regroup and come up with new ideas to promote our ponies and membership. There should be some new information about these things in the next magazine. They have also been working on improving and updating the webpage. Lots of new things are in the works, so stay tuned and check out the magazine. Check out our public Facebook page which can be found at: American Connemara Pony Society - Region 8 that everyone can post to. It currently has 287 followers. Not bad considering there are about 16 Region VIII members. So it's a good place to promote our ponies. Don't forget to send information for the “Meet the Members” blurb.

    List of horse breeds 1 List of horse breeds This page is a list of horse and pony breeds, and also includes terms used to describe types of horse that are not breeds but are commonly mistaken for breeds. While there is no scientifically accepted definition of the term "breed,"[1] a breed is defined generally as having distinct true-breeding characteristics over a number of generations; its members may be called "purebred". In most cases, bloodlines of horse breeds are recorded with a breed registry. However, in horses, the concept is somewhat flexible, as open stud books are created for developing horse breeds that are not yet fully true-breeding. Registries also are considered the authority as to whether a given breed is listed as Light or saddle horse breeds a "horse" or a "pony". There are also a number of "color breed", sport horse, and gaited horse registries for horses with various phenotypes or other traits, which admit any animal fitting a given set of physical characteristics, even if there is little or no evidence of the trait being a true-breeding characteristic. Other recording entities or specialty organizations may recognize horses from multiple breeds, thus, for the purposes of this article, such animals are classified as a "type" rather than a "breed".     The Kerry Bog Pony www.kerrybogpony.ie Photo: Bob Langrish THE KERRY BOG PONY The Kerry Bog Pony is a small mountain and moorland type pony. The breed originated in Kerry but it is now found all over Ireland. The numbers however are very low and the breed is still critically ▲ Photo: Liz Sugar endangered. It has a fine intelligent head with large kind eyes. It has a strong and well set on neck with a rounded shoulder and compact body. The pony is clean legged with very little feather to its heels. It has good bone, with short cannon bones, short pasterns and upright hooves. The Kerry Bog Pony is extremely hardy, resistant to many equine diseases with great powers of endurance. Its temperament and versatility make it an excellent children’s pony and it can be used ▲ Photo: Gay Keogh by adults for carriage driving and as a pack animal. Though an ancient breed it was only officially recognised by the Department of Agriculture and the European Union in 2004. Photo: Pascal Lando BREED STANDARD SIZE: This is a small pony evolved as such because of its use as a draught animal in the bogs of Kerry over the centuries. Thus, the height of the Kerry Bog pony is 102 cms - 117 cms for Stallions and Geldings and 102 cms - 112cms for Mares. COLOUR: Any strong whole colour is to be found, but colour is generally brown or brownish black and bay. Some chestnut, grey and dun colours are also to be found. COAT: The coat of the Kerry Bog Pony is long and dense and easily capable of withstanding harsh winter conditions without shelter.
