Bistline Foundation in ICF awards more than $80,000 to support arts and education in Southeast

IDAHO FALLS – The F.M., Anne G., and Beverly B. Bistline Foundation in the Idaho Community Foundation has awarded 15 grant requests totaling more than $80,000 for projects that support arts activities and art-related education in southeast Idaho.

Recipients of the fall 2018 grant cycle are:

Empower Humanity – $10,000 to support building improvements and tuition scholarships for underprivileged students that meet specific eligibility requirements

Idaho Shakespeare Festival – $3,000 to support the eastern portion of the Idaho Shakespeare Festival’s educational outreach programs, Idaho Theater for Youth and Shakespearience.

Idaho State University – $2,425 to bring in a shifu paper and book artist to provide a public lecture and hands-on demonstration plus a two-day artist workshop on shifu, the art of paper thread and weaving.

Idaho State University – $7,500 to co-host an educational literary event to present a forum by 2018 bestselling author, Tara Westover.

Idaho State-Civic Symphony Association, Inc. – $5,000 to foster the artistic growth of the Idaho State Civic Symphony Youth Orchestra through workshops and a live performance showcased at Disneyland.

Idaho Public Television – $3,000 to sponsor the Great Performances program on Idaho Public Television.

Idaho Public Television – $3,000 to support the 2019 PBS Kids Writers Contest, an art and literature competition for children in kindergarten to third-grade, and support the Eastern Region awards ceremony in Pocatello.

Lillian Vallely School – $6,060 to help Native American students to honor and preserve their heritage by providing opportunities for them to be creative using their traditions and culture.

Malad Valley Theater Guild – $3,000 to purchase scripts, costumes and sets for community theater productions.

Musicians West – $5,003 to provide honoraria and lodging for judges; medals and trophies for pre-college students; and piano tunings for the Musicians West Piano Festival and Competition.

Old Town Actors Studio – $9,000 to continue theatre for youth, as well as bring distinctive and innovative theatre to the community.

Oneida County Library – $6,060 to provide summer cultural arts activities based in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) program.

Snake River High School – $5,000 to purchase the rights to two plays in 2019 and purchase sound equipment for the auditorium.

Snake River New Horizons Band – $5,625 to purchase a wide selection of much-needed concert band and smaller ensemble music compositions of various genres.

The Art Museum of , Inc. – $8,529 to provide hands-on art lessons in elementary school classrooms in Shelley, Firth, Blackfoot, Fort Hall, and Soda Springs.
