SRIMAN KOIL KANTHADAI VADULA DESIGA ANNAVILAPPAN KUMARA RAMANUJACHARYA SWAMI Sri U.Ve. .......................................................................................... Swami, Mangalasasanam. Our Srivaishnavism Siddhantam is as old as Veda itself. All the Vedas, Upanishads, Ithihasa Puranas, and the Pancharatra and Vaikanasa Vaishnava Agamas undoubtedly establish the Supremacy of Lord Srimannarayana and the religion Srivaishnavism. After the puranic period, the great mystic saints, the Alwars were born in different parts of South India to spread Srivaishanvism and steadfast faith and devotion to Srinamnarayana. They expressed their divine experience of God and His glorious kalyanagunas in their mystic outpourings in chaste Tamil language which are collectively known as “Nalayira Divya Prabandham”. These divine songs contain rich philosophical and religious thoughts drawn from the Upanishads and Ithihasa Puranas. They cover all the essential teachings of Vaishnavism and thus made a very great contribution for futher development by our Purvacharyas like Sriman Nathamunigal, Sri Yamunacharya, Sri Swami Ramanuja and other acharyas who came after the Alwars. Swami Ramanuja made the most significant contribution to the development and propagation of the Visishtadvaita Philosophy and Srivaishnavism Religion. Being a Philosopher and Scientific thinker, Swami Ramanuja systematised the system of thought of Srivaishnavism religion and the Alwar’s pasurams and to propagate it among the masses, He had established the Seventy Four (74) Simhasanadhipathis all over and Swami himself had toured extensively throughout the country and had visited all the Srivaishnava Divya Desams where the presiding deities are copiously praised by the mystic saints, the Alwars. The foremost among the Seventy Four Simhasanadhipathis instituted by Swami Ramanuja is the Vadhulakula Tilaka Sri Mudaliyandan Swami, the priya Bagineyar (sister’s son) of Swami Ramanuja. It is learnt from our Thirumaligai Thirumudivarga Vaibhava Prakasikai, that Swami Mudaliyandan is born to his parents Sri Ananthanarayana Diskshithar and Nachiyarammal as “Dasarathi” on the Chaithra Punarvasu Nakshatra day as the Amsa of Lord Sri Rama Himself. Swami Ramanuja had a very intimate attachment for Swami Mudaliyandan which was expressed by Swami Ramanuja himself many times and even at the time when he embraced Sanyasasrama, Swami Ramanuja renounced everything except Swami Mudaliyandan his priya Bagineyar. Swami Mudaliyandan is known to be the Thridhandam and Paduka of Swami Ramanuja. Sri Kurathalvan, known to be the Pavithram of Swami Ramanuja, has also expressed the greatness of Swami Mudaliyandan by saying as, “Padakku Atma Sambandham Irundhalum, Uzhakku Deha Sambandham Illaye”, Meaning : “Though I have the Atma Sambandham with Swami Ramanuja, I am not bodily related to him as Swami Mudaliyandan is related to Swami Ramanuja”. Such is the greatness of Sri Mudaliyandan Swami. Appachiaranna is the direct descendant of Sri Mudaliyandan Swami and occupies the nineth (9) position in the order. Swami Appachiaranna was addressed by Swami Manavala Mamunigal as “Nam Appachiarannao” and Mamunigal also gave him Sri Raman Thirukkaipathram to make two similar vigrahas of Mamunigal, one for the worship of Sri Appachiaranna Swamy himself and the other for Sri Vanamamalai Jeer Swami, the acharya of Appachiaranna. Sri Manavala Mamunigal also gave Appachiaranna the idol of “Sri Dheemanam Keduthar”, the Perumal worshipped by Sri Atkondavilli Jeer. As directed by Swami Manaval Mamunigal, Appachiaranna lived at Kancheepuram in the Thirumaligai of Kandhadai Thozhapper performing Nithya Thiruvaradhanam to “Sri Azhaithu Vazhvithavar” one among the shad bheras of Kanchi Perarulalan. In the foot steps of Swami Ramanuja, Appachiaranna also spent his life time doing the Salaikinaru Kanikaryam for the thirumanjanam of Perarulalan and Perundevi Thayar. Such is the Mahatvam of Sri Appachiaranna Swami, the nineth descendant in the Vadhula race. Swami Annavilappan, Thirukumarar of Appachiaranna Swami lived in Singaperumal koil in the service of Sri Pataladhri Narasimha Perumal as ordained by Lord Narasimha. The Lord of Singaperumal Koil Pataladhri Narasimha, appeared in the dream of Swami Annavilappan and ordered him to set right His abode which was covered under sand dunes and establish a place with agraharam and kainkaryaparas and to live ever in His Service. Accordingly, Swami Annavilappan followed the divine order and lived his full life time in the service of the Lord of Singaperumal Koil. Such great acharya Swami Annavilappan’s Thirumasikettai Thirunakshatra Mahotsavam (Star Birthday Celebration) is being celebrated during the current Year Vijaya, Masi 02nd day of Masi (14.2.2014 to 23.2.2014). Thirumasikettai Sattumurai will be on Sunday the 23.2.2014, followed by Vidaiyathi Utsavam for three days from 24.2.2014 to 26.2.2014. 26.2.2014 Morning Periyaperumal Thirukkalyana Utsavam. All Thirumaligai Sishyas and Abhimanis are invited to participate in the Mahotsavam on all the Utsavadays and receive the blessings of Acharya. • Adyanana Utsavam Concluding with Nammazhwar's Mokshotsava M
Adyanana Utsavam concluding with Nammazhwar's Mokshotsava m Adyanana Utsavam SRI VENKATESWARA SAHASRA GHATAABHISHEKAM Dec 27th 2019 to Jan 15th 2020 Sponsorship Form Adyayana Utsavam means studying, learning, and remembrance of Vedic Verses. Nalayira Divya Prabandham is the composition of 12 Sri Vaishnava Saints (Azhwars) in praise of Sriman Narayanan. Divya Prabhandham has 4000 divine verses (Pasurams) and is recognized as Dravida Veda. Let's look at the history and how this legacy was propagated. Sri Tirumangai Azhwar's Period Thirumangai Azhwar, the last of twelve Azhwars sang Thiru-Nedun-Thaandakam before Lord Ranganatha. The Lord was pleased by the meanings of the pasurams and granted two boons to Thirumangai Alwar. 1. The Lord with his divine consorts should listen to the divine Pasurams of Thiruvaimozhi composed by Nammazhwar 2. The sacred verses of Azhwars (Divya Prabhandams) should be given the equal status in terms of authority and supremacy to that of Vedas. Lord Ranganatha agreed to the above request. However the tradition of Adyayana utsavam was discontinued over the years. Sri Nathamunigal's Period Sri Nathamunigal of the 7th century, the foremost Acharya resumed the Adyayan utsavam at Srirangam. He extended the practice of recitals to include all 4000 verses and made it a 21- day celebration. In the first ten days, Mudalayeeram (first 1000 verses) and Tirumangai Azhwars' Peria Tirumozhi are recited. In the second ten days, Thiruvaimozhi is recited Visit www.svtemplenc.org 121 Balaji Place Cary, NC 27513 (919)- 468-0040 culminating in Nammazhwar's Mokshotsavam on the 20th day. On the 21st day, Iyarpa is recited.

This image is very unique. Here, one can see Ramanuja with the gnyAna mudra (the sign of a teacher; see his right/left hands); usually, Swami Ramanuja’s images always present him in the anjali mudra (offering worship, both hands together in obeisance). Our elders say that Swami Ramanuja’s image at Thirumala shows the gnyAna mudra, because it is here that Swami Ramanuja gave his lectures on Vedarta Sangraha, his insightful, profound treatise on the meaning of the Upanishads. It is also said that Swami Ramanuja here is considered an Acharya to Lord Srinivasa Himself, and that is why the hundi is located right in front of swami Ramanuja at the temple (as a mark of respect to an Acharya). In Thirumala, other than Lord Srinivasa, Varaha, Narasimha and A VEDICS JOURNAL Varadaraja, the only other accepted shrine is that of Swami Ramanuja.

This idol is very special to all VaishNavas. It is said that sometime before Ramanuja left this earth for SriVaikuNTam (the abode of the Supreme Lord, where all souls are in a state of permanent bliss serving the Lord), his devotees wanted to install an image of him at his birthplace. So, they approached Ramanuja, and sought permission. Ramanuja gave permission, and the idol was made. This idol is said to be an exact image of how Ramanuja was during his life. When the idol was shown to him, Ramanuja embraced the image. Ramanuja’s devotees believe that Sri Ramanuja in Sri Perumbudur through this process, he transferred Himself onto this idol. This idol was then installed at SriperumbUdUr.
