JOSHUA 6:1-27 “Is anything too hard for the LORD?" Genesis 18:14

Copyright a Calvary Curriculum & Matt Baker JOSHUA 6:1-27 UNDERSTANDING THE STORY: The Israelites used to be slaves in Egypt. God freed them from being slaves and told them that He would give them their own land to build on. One of the cities God gave to them was called . • The city of Jericho had a tall wall around it. Why did the people of Jericho build a wall around their city? • After Moses died, who became the leader of the Israelites? Who was leading Joshua?

God came to Joshua and told him how he and the people should fght against Jericho. (Joshua 6:2-5) • Does walking around a city sound like a normal way to fght a battle? If people had thought of blowing trumpets and shouting loudly to make the wall crumble to the ground, would that have worked? • But, who came up with this idea? If the Israelites did what God told them to do, would they win the battle?

The Israelites did what God told them to do and walked around the city one time, every day, for six days. • What do you think the people in Jericho thought when they saw the Israelites walking around their city? Do you think they had heard stories about God helping the Israelites? • Was it important for the Israelites to obey exactly what God had told them to do?

On day seven, Joshua and the priests, the soldiers, and the guards did something new. • What did God tell them to do on the seventh day? When they did that, what happened to Jericho’s wall? Who won the battle? • The Israelites had promised Rahab that she and her family would not die, because she had helped God’s people. Did the Israelites keep their promise to Rahab? SIMPLE TRUTHS: The Israelites did not need to be scared to fght against Jericho, because God had told them what to do. They followed His plan. • Sometimes we have a big problem and we do not know what to do. Should we fnd out what God wants us to do? Can we pray and ask God to give us HIS ideas? • Are God’s ideas better than people’s ideas? Is God much smarter than we are?

God taught the Israelites that He could help them in their battles. • What does God want us to learn from this story? (He is with us and is able to help us. He is very powerful. He can do anything.) • Is it important to obey what God tells us to do? If we obey what God tells us to do, will He take care of the rest?

God wants to do amazing things in our lives! • The Bible says that Joshua followed God with his whole heart. If we follow God with our whole heart, will we see how powerful and good God is? • Let’s pray and talk to God now. We can ask Him to help us follow Him just like Joshua did.

AND REMEMBER... MEMORY VERSE:

If we obey God, He will “Is anything too hard for take care of the rest! the LORD?” Genesis 18:14
