OUTREACH 4 February / March 2012 Editorialalal

he Bible is the world’s best-seller even today! People around the world have criticised its contents and condemned its authority; they have taken the Tsacred text out of context and made pretexts, hoping to corner people who preach and practice what it says. They have burnt printing presses which produce the Bible, aspiring to drive it out of circulation. Still, millions open its pages day and night, meditate on the wonderful words of life written in it, memorise verses and use it as the rule book to govern their lives. Governments around the world draw principles to formulate their laws, universities have introduced portions of it as part of their curriculum, because the Bible, though written many centuries ago by a group of writers who lived at different times, continues to speak to people in their situations. The Bible leads people to a knowledge and experience of who the living God is and what He has done for them. God speaks through His Word! Are we listening? The Indian Evangelical Mission is committed to investing money, manpower and time to gift the people we are working among, with the Bible. Our Bible translation teams live among the people into whose language they are translating the Bible; they understand their culture and exercise God-given wisdom to translate His Word. Much can be said about our Bible translation ministry. However, in this issue, we will confine ourselves to 2 aspects. Why is the Bible the life-line of the church and why we are moving toward involving mother-tongue translators in the translation process? Of course, if the Lord speaks to you, feel free to offer yourself to let the Bible speak to people who do not have a single printed WORD in their language! In our Mission field focus, we highlight various aspects of our ministry among the Koya people. This mission field is perhaps one of the largest in terms of geographical area. Also a number of churches have been planted here over the years. Many missionaries have left their foot prints in the annals of our ministry here, and no investment made here has been wasted. As of today, this is the only mission field in IEM to have a doctor-run clinic! Christian doctors, nurses and para-medical staff – are you paying attention? Many mission fields are crying out for that “touch of love!” People and events make up history. In this issue we have several news items, talking about people and events who have contributed to the history of IEM during the last 2 months. Read on!

He and his wife pioneered the ecumenical prayer fellowship in Kottayam. In 1991, he and his wife prayerfully decided to gift their property to IEM. This dear couple were instrumental in nurturing many spiritually and physically. They gave away most of their income for the church and missions. Uncle George’s wife went to be with the Lord in 2005. OUTREACH 27 February / March 2012 Silver Jubilee Thanksgiving Service: HO Ministry TTThhhank you Lord!d!d!

In 1986, the Evangelical Missionary Society of Mayurbhanj (EMSM) invited IEM begin ministering to the HO people. At the outset, our missionaries faced much opposition and persecution but we also saw God’s marvelous plan being worked out in this place. Today, 25 years later, the Lord enabled us to start worship groups in 21 places including one neighboring Jharkhand. We praise God for His faithfulness.

Presently, as a result of the hard labour of our 10 evangelists, the church is growing and our believers are strong in faith. Presently, ministries like church planting, hostel ministry, literacy, Bible translation and community development are being carried out among the HO people. In addition, continuous training of evangelists and potential leaders is also being done.

On December 18, 2011, the Silver Jubilee thanksgiving service was conducted at Baliposi village. Rev John Wesley, IEM General Secretary, Mr. Solomon Swamidoss, HoD Finance, Dr Subhankar Ghosh, EMSM leader and Rev. Pradeep Misra, Vice- Principal of Cuttack Theological College joined with pioneer missionaries Rev. David Barnabas & Rev Pradeep Kumar Das on the occasion. Around 700 believers and IEM missionaries from the mission fields and church ministries from Odisha attended the programme. We experienced God’s leading through out the programme.

During the thanksgiving service, 5 evangelists were ordained. We praise God for His faithfulness in the ministry among the HO people.

During the thanksgiving service, a few believers shared their testimonies of how God had led them to Christ. The history of the ministry among the HO people was ably presented in the form of a skit.

DEDICATION OF 1ST AND 2ND TIMOTHY AND TITUS IEM General Secretary, Rev John Wesley dedicated the books first and second Timothy and Titus for the glory of God. He also challenged the believers to buy and read these Scripture portions regularly. After the thanksgiving service, more than 200 copies were sold. We praise God for His provision. A sumptuous meal was served after the programme.
