It resembles Bellevalia gracilis Feinbrun, but differs in scapose habitus, leaves, and characters of the capsule. The morphological diagnostic characters and karyological features are discussed. This year we are offering an unprecedented range of calochortus in a multiplicity of sizes, colours and flower shapes from the charming fairy lanterns of C. albidus through to the spectacular, later-flowering mariposas with upward-facing bowl-shaped flowers in a rich tapestry of shades from canary-yellow through to lilac, lavender and purple. Counterpoised to these flashy dandies we are offering an assortment of choice muscari whose quiet charm, softer colours and Tulipa vvedenskyi Tecophilaea cyanocrocus Violacea persistent flowering make them no less effective in the winter and spring garden. Standouts among this group are the deliciously scented duo, M. muscarimi and M. macrocarpum and the striking and little known tassel-hyacith, M. weissii. While it has its devotees, many gardeners are unaware of the qualities of the large and diverse tribe of “onions”, known as alliums. -

About 200 taxons are cul- tivated. Many plant names have their synonyms. The most often cultivated taxons are Muscari armeniacum and M. botryoides. Also M. aucheri and M. latifolium have become more popular. It is difficult to find information on growth, development and hardiness of grape hyacinths. In 2008−2009 in the Department of Ornamental Plants in West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin a collection of taxons from genus Muscari was gathered. M. arme- niacum and its cultivars: ‘Blue Spike’, ‘Cantab’, ‘Heavenly Blue’, ‘Atlantic’, ‘Blue Pearl’ and ‘Fantasy Creation’; M. aucheri and its cultivars ‘Blue Magic’, ‘Dark Eyes’, ‘Mount Hood’, ‘Sky Blue’ and ‘White Beauty’; M. azureum; M. botryoides; M. comosum; M. latifolium; M. macro- carpum; M. muscarimi; M. neglectum and M. ‘Valerie Finnis’ were collected and described in this article. Key words: Muscari, taxon, collection INTRODuCTION Grape hyacinths are popular spring blooming bulbs. Most of them originate from the Mediterranean region and from SE Asia. It is difficult to find how many species of genus Muscari are cultivated. The results indicate that the taxa generally differ from each other in terms of seed shape and dimension. Seed dimensions vary between 1.66 mm and 3.21 mm in length, and between 1.12 mm and 2.63 mm in width. The seed surface ornamentation is grouped into nine forms: ru- minate, reticulate, reticulate-areolate, reticulate-foveate, alveolate, scalariform, rugose, verrucate and areolate. The most common type is ruminate, while areolate, reticulate-foveate and scalariform ornamentation forms were found to be taxon-specific. Testa structures of the taxa examined consist in general of two different layers: the epidermis and the subepidermis in scleranchymatous or parenchymatous structures. The subepidermis may be absent in some of taxa. The structure and thickness of the epidermis and the subepidermis are very important characteristics that dis- close interspecific relations among the examined taxa. -

[email protected] Abstract: The present study was carried out during 2010 to 2011 to determine the important plants of in Jarjar oma in Al- Jabal Al- Akhdar-Libya, which includes about 179 species belonging to 51 families and 144 genera. They are represented by 75 perennial, 101 annual and 3 biennial species. Most characteristic families are Asteraceae containing 28 species, the dominance of Asteraceae indicates the range deterioration and dominance of unpalatable species. Fabaceae represented by 22 species, Poaceae including 18 species, Asparagaceae by 7 species, Brassicaceae by 6 species, Caryophyllaceae by 6 species, Euphorbiaceae by 6 species saline and rocky. Apiaceae, Lamiaceae and Polygonaceae including 5 species. Noticed that 56.2 % of species was annuals and 42.1 % was perennials and 1.7 % was biennials. Whereas autumn and summer increase perennials to reach 100 % more than spring and winter wherein increase annuals species to attain 55 %, to display disappear biennial in autumn and summer seasons in all habitat except rocky habitat in autumn. Out of the surveyed, Kinds of Forbs gave 109 species followed shrubs by 38 species, Grass 26 species, Trees 6 species. Of the most dominant species was broad-leaved (Forbs) plant species found in the region. According to palatability 107 species were palatable and 72 species were unpalatable. For annuals, 61 species were palatable and 40 species were unpalatable, while perennial, 44 species were palatable and 31 species were unpalatable. -

The chromosome numbers were determined as 2n=2x=8 in all studied taxa [B. chrisii Yıldırım & B. Şahin sp. nov., B. glauca (Lindl.) Kunth., B. gracilis Feinbrun, B. longipes Post, B. sarmatica (Pallas ex Georgi) Woronow]. The karyotype formula was de- termined as 2m+sm+st in B. chrisii and B. longipes, 3m+st in B. glauca, B. gracilis and B. sarmatica. Except from Muscari macrocarpum, the others are endemic species for our country and they could be counted as M. bourgaei, M. sandrasicum, M. racemosum, M. turcicum and M. vuralii. In scope of morphometric analyses, many numbers of morphologic and anatomic characters were used to determine the diagnostic of Muscari species and the created dendrogram gave very important information about them. Taxonomical obtained results supported the previous taxonomical assignments meaningfully in Flora of Turkey. The outcomes revealed that the taxa were similar in some aspects with such as sterile flowers, thick cuticle of scape and two rowed vascular bundles of scape. However, some features belonging to scape, leaves and flowers were primarily diagnostic characters among taxa, and they were founded having taxonomic value in the distinction of these taxa from each other.
