The image of the lake is shaped by three islands: the “Herreninsel”, the “Fraueninsel”, and the smaller “Krautinsel”. The conference will take place at the convent of “Fraueninsel”, called “Frauenwörth”. For more information about the “Chiemsee” and the “Fraueninsel”: http://en.chiemsee-alpenland.de/ About the Technische Universität München: The Technische Universität München with about 32.000 students and 9.704 staff members, including more than 500 professors, is divided into 13 academic departments in mainly three different sites. When we want to help teachers meeting these demands we have to learn more about the conditions in which teachers learn best and are able to develop professionally during their career. These issues in research on teaching and learning are decisive for long-term benefits of educational reform. SIG 11 invites researchers to join us at this event to present and discuss their recent research about the current status in their respective countries and internationally. We specially recommend researchers to share their ideas about practical „heuristics“ or „rules of thumb“ that might be able to influence teacher education practices in all phases of a professional career. The program will inlcude 3 keynote presentations, symposia, paper presentations, and poster presentations. The sessions will consist of usually three papers in a symposium and in the paper and poster sessions of 90 min. We also encourage researchers to think of innovative formats within symposia (as paper or poster presentations) that allows for more discussion with the audience. Detailed descriptions about possible formats are given on the website and in this call. The presenters are asked to include points for discussion in their proposals, and plans for how to interact with the audience are welcome. 3 Guidelines for presentations 1. Symposia proposals: Each symposium will consist of three papers from three different countries and a discussant. Each paper will have 15 min. max for presentation, and the same for the discussant. This leaves at least 30 min for discussion with the audience. We also welcome interactive symposia where the presenters briefly (about 7 min.) introduce their paper, and pose a question/ dilemma/ case to be discussed with the audience (about 13 min.) Finally the discussant sums it all up in 20 min. and engages in a discussion with the audience in the last 10 min. The proposal should consist of: I. Abstract of the whole symposium: 300 words II. An abstract of each paper: 500 words III. Structure of the symposium (interactive or traditional symposium, see previous bullet point). 2. Paper proposals: Each session will have three papers which are themed together by the organising committee. Each paper will have 20 min. for presentation and 10 min for discussion following each paper. The proposal should consist of: I. An abstract of the paper: 500 words II. About three questions to be discussed with the audience 3. Poster proposals: Each session will have a group of posters which are themed together by the organising committee. Each poster will have 5 min. for presentation, followed by individual discussion with the audience. The proposal should consist of: I. An abstract of the poster: 500 words II. About three questions to be discussed with the audience The proposals are to be submitted at the conference homepage: www.2014sig11.com/registration-submission/ 4 Important deadlines: February 1st 2014: deadline for proposals March 15th, 2014: response from organising committee May, 20th , 2014: closure of registration June 1st, 2014: preliminary program on line Organisations: Conference convenor: Professor Tina Seidel, Technische Universität München Local organising committee: Members of the Friedl Schöller-Endowed Chair for Teaching and Learning Research, Technische Universität München Rosa-Anna Friedl-Gründler Angela Krapp Jennifer Apel Dr. Alexander Gröschner Janina Häusler Verena Jurik Katharina Kiemer Ann-Kathrin Pehmer Stefanie Schäfer Sina Stubben Dr. Kathleen Stürmer Dr. Katharina Wolfrat International organising committee: Professor Kari Smith, University of Bergen, PhD student Els Consuegra, University of Brussels For further information please contact [email protected] 5 .
