Particular attention was also given to collect data and information for specific purposes concerning the development of the Danube Water Quality Model, the identification and evaluation of hot spots, the analysis of social and economic factors, the preparation of an investment portfolio and the development of financing mechanisms for the implementation of the ICPDR Action Plan. For the elaboration of the National Reviews, a team of national experts was recruited in each of the participating countries for a period of one to four months covering the following positions: Socio-economist with knowledge in population studies, Financial expert (preferably from the Ministry of Finance), Water Quality Data expert/information specialist, Water Engineering expert with knowledge in project development. Each of the experts had to organize his or her work under the supervision of the respective Country Programme Coordinator and with the guidance of a team of International Consultants. The tasks were laid out in specific Terms of Reference. At a Regional Workshop in Budapest from 27 to 29 January 1998, the national teams and the group of international consultants discussed in detail the methodological approach and the content of the National Reviews to assure coherence of results.

MINUTES OF THE MEETING LOCAL PROJECT APPRAISAL COMMITTEE Project: Increasing resilience of Livno, Mrkonjić Grad and Maglaj Project ID: BHl0/00110813 Summary of the meeting Introduction Mr. Avdić, UNDP BiH Sector Leader for Energy and Environment initiated the meeting by informing all participants of the Local Programme Advisory Committee (LPAC) that Project "Increasing resilience of Livno, Mrkonjić Grad and Maglaj" received Endorsement of the Czech Government. Expected start of the Project is 15 August 2018. Mr. Avdic stressed out that presenting the project activities, methodology and implementation modalities to LPAC, is a formal precondition and underlined the importance of local partners role within this project. Presentation of the Project Document Project budget is EUR 100,000 and anticipated duration is 12 months starting from 15 August 2018 and ending on 14 August 2019. The project would use the Direct Implementation Modality (DIM). The Project Board will be comprised of the following institutions: Ministry of Security of BiH, Civil Protection Directorate/Administration of FBIH, Civil Protection Directorate/Administration of RS, the Czech Republic Humanitarian Aid and UNDP. Project would lean and build on vast and successful UNDP ORR efforts in the local communities. In particular, the project will be closely interlinked with all relevant on-going and planned ORR related projects to secure alignment of results, efficiency, avoid duplication of efforts and ensure contribution to overall strategic direction.     Kako doći do Banja Luke? Automobilom - iz smjera Beograd: Beograd je od Banjaluke udaljen 350 km. Ukoliko, u Banjaluku, dolazite iz Beograda uključujete na auto put E70 prema zapadu i Zagrebu. Na 300-tom kilometru u mjestu Okučani izađite sa auto-puta i skrenite desno na putni pravac E661 i vozite južno prema graničnom prelazu Bosne i Hercegovine u Gradišci (11km). Od Gradiške nastavljate istim putnim pravcem E661 prema jugu do Banjaluke (50km). - - iz smjera Zagreb: Zagreb je od Banjaluke udaljen oko 180 km. Ukoliko u Banjaluku dolazite iz Zagreba, uključite se na auto-put E70 prema istoku i Beogradu. Na 106-tom kilometru od Zagreba, u mjestu Okučani, izađite sa auto-puta, te nakon naplatnih kućica skrenite na lijevo, na putni pravac E661 i vozite južno prema graničnom prelazu Bosne i Hercegovine u Gradišci (11km). Od Gradiške nastavljate istim putnim pravcem (E661) prema jugu do Banjaluke (50km). - - .iz smjera Sarajevo: Sarajevo je od Banjaluke udaljeno oko 250 km. Ukoliko, u Banjaluku, dolazite iz Sarajeva idite na sjeverozapad prema mjestu Kakanj i magistralnom putu E-73 te se na 60-tom kilometru odlučite između dva različita putna pravca koja vode do Banjaluke. Prvi (bolji i duži) put nastavlja putnim pravcem E73 prema sjeveru i mjestima Zenica i Maglaj a na 17-om kilometru nakon Doboja, skrećete lijevo i nastavljate put prema Derventi, Prnjavoru i Klašnicama. U Klašnicama (nakon mosta) skrećete lijevo i uključujete se na magistralni put M16 (E661) i nastavljate voziti 16 km južno za Banjaluku. Drugim, kraćim i mnogo interesantnijim putem, ćete stići ako idući iz Sarajeva skrenete desno u mjestu Lašva i uključite se na magistralni putni pravac E661 prema Vitezu, Travniku, Jajcu i dalje prema Banjaluci.

    DISASTER-RESISTANT SCHOOLS Children) the Agović/Save (Photo: Jasmin Close to a hundred communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina were affected by the natural disaster in 2014. Around 560,000 citizens including 140,000 children were affected by floods and landslides. The unpreparedness of both the competent authorities on all levels of government and the citizens resulted in major material damage, leaving many families homeless. In order to help reduce the risk of natural and other disasters, in 2015 Save the Children implemented a program aimed at reducing the risk of natural and other disasters in the municipalities of Maglaj, Šamac, Gradačac, Srebrenica, Sanski Most and Brčko District. 2 Save the Children continues 3 its activities in Maglaj As an organization that primarily focuses on protecting children, Save the Children immediately joined the efforts to help the impacted population, especially children. Help included lifesaving equipment, equipment for clearing out and disinfecting houses, and later on it also included reconstructing homes, schools and establishing Children DISASTER-RESISTANT SCHOOLS DISASTER-RESISTANT Corners, safe places where, at times of disaster, children SCHOOLS DISASTER-RESISTANT could study, play and receive psycho-social assistance in dealing with their traumas. After providing active help in the immediate aftermath of the floods, Save the Children continued working on Disaster Risk Reduction programs (DRR). In Maglaj, these activities included training the school staff and students, planning and developing Disaster Risk Reduction action plans, conducting disaster simulation exercises as well as equipping schools with fire extinguishers, first-aid cabinets, ladders and other lifesaving equipment. Two and one-half years later, in December 1995, Deny Flight officially ended after an almost continuous 970-day aerial presence constituting over 100,000 aircraft sorties. In that time, NATO aircraft dropped more than 3,000 bombs while participating in combat operations for the first time in alliance history. Deny Flight’s initial mission was to enforce a UN Security Council mandated no-fly zone over Bosnia. This mission expanded in the ensuing months to include close air support when requested for UN protection forces (UNPROFOR) on the ground and to deter Serb aggression against six UN-designated safe areas.

    23rd OSCE ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL FORUM “Water governance in the OSCE area – increasing security and stability through co-operation” EEF.FR/3/15/Add.1 CONCLUDING MEETING 21 September 2015 Prague, 14 – 16 September 2015 Session 6 ENGLISH only Bosnia and Herzegovina 2014 Floods SUMMARY OF THE Case Study – Maglaj May 2014 Floods May 2014 floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina As a result of extremely heavy rainfall leading up to 14 May 2014, when a quarter of the average annual rainfall fell in a period of 4 days (approx. 300 l/m2), the river Bosna and its tributaries in the vicinity of its spring flooded the surrounding areas in the Sarajevo Canton. The ensuing flood wave affected areas downstream, all the way to the confluence of river Bosna with the river Sava on the border with the Republic of Croatia. Within only two days the flood devastated a large number of cities and municipalities along the course of the river Bosna and its tributaries, with the Maglaj Municipality being one of the hardest hit. The preliminary emergency phase, whose main objective was to save lives of flood victims, was essentially completed 10 days after the occurrence of critical flooding, subsequent to which the disaster recovery and consequence-mitigation phase commenced. There is general agreement among experts that the response to the floods was organized reasonably quickly, especially taking into account the lack of preparedness, inadequate early warning systems and poor structural prevention measures. According to official data from competent institutions of BiH entities and Brþko District the 2014 floods killed 22 people, while two (2) persons were registered as missing.
