A grand total of £1,900 was raised for Village Hall funds and these funds are much needed. We were so lucky with the weather which at one point threatened to break but didn’t, unlike the tug o’ war rope - so glad no one was hurt. Many people contributed to the success of the day with donations for stalls, wood for the fire, raffle prizes, the wonderful marquee, bales and trailer, live music, emergency tables, water and electricity and lots of elbow grease. Wonderful teams set everything up and took it all down again in record time. The Sporting Green was virtually clear by 6.30pm. Finally thank you all for coming along to support the event because without you, there would be no successful event. Roll on next year’s! BRIDESTOWE VILLAGE HALL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The Over 60’s Luncheon Club will be held on Tuesday 13th September , meeting at 12 noon for lunch at 12.30pm. We had an enjoyable afternoon in August watching Shona Hall demonstrating how to make bracelets, followed by a workshop. We were also able to purchase items from the display of Aquarius Designs Jewellery. We sent a ‘Get Well Card’ with love and best wishes to Geraldine, our President. We also sent our best wishes to our minute secretary, Beryl, who has just completed a course of treatment. We hope that they will soon be back with us. The workshop for Ribbon Embroidery will be on 5 October in Sourton Hall from 10.30 – 4 pm. We meet again on Tuesday 13 September at 2 pm when Mr Peter Cribbs will be speaking on ‘The Life of a Trumpeter for the Queen’. We would welcome anyone who would like to join us. Operation Christmas Child We are planning to take part in Operation Christmas Child again this year. Could you please save shoe boxes and suitable Christmas gifts for the children to fill the boxes. Further details next month. Paul Fishleigh We were all shocked and saddened to hear of Paul’s death due to a tragic accident. We send our sympathy, love and support to Rosie, Ollie and all his family and many friends. Paul was a very valued member of our community as was shown by the hundreds of people who attended his funeral service in Sourton Church and his internment in the churchyard. All of us would like to offer our support to Rosie, Ollie and all the family in their sad and difficult time ahead and our help in any way we can. Rev. Adrian Brook officiated at the service in his kind and understanding way and Andrew Wilson (the Okehampton organist) played the organ. Aimee Heron and Anthony Crawford The wedding of Aimee to Anthony was held in Sourton Church on 13 August. The church, decorated by Chris Heron and friends, looked very lovely. Rev. Adrian Brook took the service and Brenda Harris kindly played the organ. The bells rang out to welcome the bridal party and their guests to church and the bride, looking very beautiful arrived in a steam driven car. We pray that God will bless their marriage and that Aimee and Anthony will enjoy a long and happy married life together. The Churchyard The churchyard looks immaculate. We would like to thank Tony Batten for working hard during many long hours to achieve such a high standard of maintenance and care. Harvest Festival Our harvest festival celebrations are the first weekend in October. The harvest service begins at 6.30 pm on Monday 3 October followed by the harvest supper and auction expertly taken by James Morrish of Kivells in his entertaining way. The harvest supper has the same menu as last year, a meat salad with a variety of desserts to follow. The tickets are priced at £6 adults and £3 children under 16 and are available from P.C.C. members. It would greatly help with the catering if tickets could be bought by 27 September.
