April 2016 Newsletter No 166 Lunch in Montferrat

What better to do on a dull rainy day than to get together with friends and make new friends at a BAV lunch. Montferrat may be on the northern extremities of the and in a remote location but it always attracts a good attendance and this was certainly the case at the end of February. This year a creditable 43 members and guests attended the lunch.

We gathered together in an enormous 'baronial' private dining room and enjoyed a delicious buffet with a wide variety of dishes, followed by a choice of main courses and a buffet dessert which provided something for everybody. Our thanks go to the Bastide des Moines for its hospitality and amicable service.

The hotel dates from the 17th century and has exposed stone walls and roof beams, log fires, and has a large outdoor area for summer eating and plenty of space for children to play. It is situated at a height of 480m and is 20km from the Gorges de Verdon. En-suite hotel rooms are available for an overnight stay. It is a good venue for large groups, special occasions and family parties and has been a BAV favourite over the years.

Bilingual Atélier in Salernes:

Following the Salernes Médiatheque's successful weekly atélier for French writers, there are now monthly bilingual sessions for English and French speakers. Participants are given some words and phrases to write about which is then shared, corrected and discussed. The English would write in French and the French in English. The atélier is run by volunteers and is free of charge. It's an interesting way of improving your language skills, meeting new people and having some fun. Anybody who is interested should email Jeanne on [email protected] who will be able to give you further details. 5
