April 2016 Newsletter No 166 Lunch in Montferrat What better to do on a dull rainy day than to get together with friends and make new friends at a BAV lunch. Montferrat may be on the northern extremities of the Var and in a remote location but it always attracts a good attendance and this was certainly the case at the end of February. This year a creditable 43 members and guests attended the lunch. We gathered together in an enormous 'baronial' private dining room and enjoyed a delicious buffet with a wide variety of dishes, followed by a choice of main courses and a buffet dessert which provided something for everybody. Our thanks go to the Bastide des Moines for its hospitality and amicable service. The hotel dates from the 17th century and has exposed stone walls and roof beams, log fires, and has a large outdoor area for summer eating and plenty of space for children to play. It is situated at a height of 480m and is 20km from the Gorges de Verdon. En-suite hotel rooms are available for an overnight stay. It is a good venue for large groups, special occasions and family parties and has been a BAV favourite over the years. 1 Forthcoming Events Bring and Share Lunch - Villecroze Committee meeting On 24 April at 12.00 a Bring and Share lunch is to be TBA held subject to fine weather, at Villecroze at the home of our Chairman, Robert Flanagan and his wife, Esther. Artists Quarter & Lunch Draguignan 22 April This is to coincide with the annual village Bourse aux Bring and Share lunch in Villecroze Plantes or plant fair which is always well attended. If 24 April you are a gardener you may like to bring a plant to exchange for another over lunch. You may wish to Coffee morning & croquet at Nans-Les-Pins make a day of it and attend the plant fair before or plus lunch at Golf Club after the lunch. (It opens at 10am). 13 May Lunch & Quiz at Trout Lake A charge of 8€ for members or 10€ for non-members Entrecasteaux will be made to cover provision of wine and bread. 13 June There is a limited number of places so please book as soon as possible by completing the usual booking form Summer Soirée in La Motte on page 11.
