Sashiko is a very old form of hand using a simple running , sewn in repeating or interlocking patterns through one or more layers of fabric. It is important to keep the stitches as even in length and as regular as possible.

The objective of this class is to become familiar with Sashiko. We will learn what Sashiko is through reading materials. To practice Sashiko stitching, a material we are using in the class has a traditional Sashiko pre-transferred onto the fabric in the form of a stencil. Some Sashiko patterns are also provided at the class.

We will also learn how to trace patterns in the second half of the class.

Material package ($20) includes:  Flat-woven fabric that has a Sashiko pattern pre-printed  Sashiko  Sashiko needles  Traditional Sashiko patterns  Reading materials

Participants must bring the following items to the workshop:  Waxed carbon (Must be waxed)  Soft (not spiky one)  FQ of flat-woven fabric (We practice transferring patterns and stitch)  Flower and  Sheet protectors (light weight)   Tracer pen or a ballpoint pen
