Archived from the original on June 25, Obsessed as it is with the textures of the flesh and the physical self as Neutral Milk Hotel emotional antenna, listening to Aeroplane sometimes seems to involve more than just your ears. Aeroplane is a place of nameless sensations and frightening desires, where historical imagery is scrambled, and lines between past, present, and future are porous. Two-Headed Boy, Pt. Zerbröckelnde Utopien | norient.com 10 Oct 2021 07:07:28 Zerbröckelnde Utopien by Benedikt Sartorius Zehn Jahre war Jeff Mangum untergetaucht. In dieser Zeit mutierten seine Lieder mit der Band Neutral Milk Hotel zu Hymnen für Trostsuchende und Widerständige. Nun spielen Neutral Milk Hotel wieder Konzerte.

Big Fresh, a ten-member art/pop collective, has expanded like the universe since 2009’s ambitious home-recorded B.F.F. (Big Fresh Forever); they’ve been joined by new singers and multi-instrumentalists Faith Diamond (Satellite Giant) and Kimberly Smith (Bear Medicine, Frigid Kitty). With John Ferguson and Ben Phelan having joined world-touring indie band The Apples in stereo (and Ferguson contributing substantially on their most recent record), Big Fresh shows have been sighted, but are farther between—yet in the studio, madly writing and producing, the band has evolved like a star cluster. The result is a stellar LP lying in a galactic sector between Tusk and R. Stevie Moore. Adding horns and the lush voices of Diamond and Smith into their elaborate arrangements, brings out the Fleetwood Mac influence on Big Fresh, and the R. Stevie Moore element is no accident: Vocalist/songwriter John Ferguson spent his childhood having the hyper-creative lo-fi pioneer as a sort of uncle, appearing on Moore’s recordings and immersed in his process. Moore contributed guitar parts to the album. Big Fresh’s newest EP, Fall Preview, is self-produced by the Kentucky avant-garde pop collective and engineered by electro-wizard Craig Morris in his hand-built Garden Gate Studio (The Apples in stereo, Thee American Revolution, Deathray Davies, Neutral Milk Hotel, Laminated Cat), the new album explodes with inventive catchiness and production details. More about Big Fresh and Fall Preview: ● Shining indie-pop hits somewhere between The Cars, Fleetwood Mac and Elephant 6. ● Big Fresh is a ten-member pop collective including horns and three keyboard players.

Photo by 200pockets.com Lauded hardcore/noise-rock pioneers Flipper have extended their partnership with Krist Novoselic-- the former bassist of some group called Nirvana-- from touring to the recording of a new album, Flipper's first in 15 years, according to a Billboard.com report. The album is currently untitled, but drummer Steve DePace told Billboard.com that recording is "99% there, if not done. We've got 10 songs, and we just did another round of mixing. The album sounds great. I think it's some of our best work ever. That also is an indicator for more future songs to come. We know we can write songs with Krist now that sound just like Flipper." Among those new songs are "Be a Good Child", "Night Falls Like Dirt Rocks", and "Triple Mass Murder Suicide", which drew its inspiration from the Virginia Tech shootings, according to the report. Hey, if Nirvana could make "Rape Me" work... DePace also explained in the interview how Novoselic's 2006 entry into the band came about. After previous bassist Bruno DeSmartass left before Flipper's performance at the Thurston Moore-curated All Tomorrow's Parties, "I chatted with Thurston and told him that I had this idea to contact Krist Novoselic.
