  • Every Musician Begins with a Teacher, Whether Through Family, Friends, Or School
Every musician begins with a teacher, whether through family, friends, or school. Some teachers and composers have formal training, others do not. In either case, they are a special kind of creative mentor. Dedicated instructors and music leaders have been found in Geneva’s schools, colleges, churches, music stores, social clubs and private studios. In 1920 W.A. Gracey wrote a song for Geneva. He also wrote a number of religious anthems which were published nationally by the John Church Company. Other local composers self-published their work. One of the legends is Geneva High School teacher Godfrey Brown. W.A. Gracey published The Geneva Times, led the Geneva Choral Society for many years, and wrote music. Along with arranging music, Bob Bardeen taught at all levels of the Geneva City School District. Jack Bullock arranged music for the Appleknockers and began the Gorham Pageant of Bands in 1960. Godfrey Brown was one of those people who gave of himself throughout his whole life and shared his talent with many, many people. - Joseph Donahue, manager of the Appleknockers Drum and Bugle Corps While Jack Bullock is remembered locally, his arrangements have probably been Godfrey Brown conducted the band, choruses, played in every school in the United orchestra, and assisted with musicals. He also led States. • Is Jack Antonoff Overrated?
:: View email as a web page :: What is it like to have a conversation with Isaac Brock? Actually, it’s a lot like listening to Modest Mouse — he’s somewhat erratic, often explosively funny, and, just when you least expect it, brutally honest and insightful. Believe it or not, but Brock now qualies as a true indie-rock elder statesman. Modest Mouse’s seventh album due out June 25, The Golden Casket, arrives 25 years after their 1996 debut, This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. Back then, Brock was a few months shy of his 20th birthday, and he sounded like it. His early songs were rough-hewn, combustible, and lled with pointed observations about small-town blue-collar life that still seem utterly unique in the largely bourgeois world of indie music. The next two Modest Mouse albums, 1997’s The Lonesome Crowded West and 2000’s The Moon & Antarctica, are landmarks of modern indie. Then came 2004’s Good News For People Who Love Bad News, which shockingly transformed them into a multi- platinum mainstream rock band. While their output since then has come slower — just three albums in the past 17 years — Brock remains committed as ever to not repeating himself. Check out this interview where Brock talks about Modest Mouse’s discography. -- Steven Hyden, Uproxx Cultural Critic and author of This Isn't Happening: Radiohead's "Kid A" and the Beginning of the 21st Century In case you missed it... The latest episode of Indiecast reviewed the new Modest Mouse album and remembered The Shins.

  • Dec1 Untitled REF GUIDE FINAL[2]
UNTITLED RESOURCE GUIDE SUGGESTIONS FOR ENGAGEMENT ABOUT UNTITLED Beginning with a reflection on the early AIDS epidemic, Untitled eschews a linear narrative to introduce a fractious timeline, moving from the sublime to the tragic and back again. By juxtaposing mainstream network news, activist footage, artists' work, and popular entertainment from the last turbulent decades, Untitled references regimes of power that precipitated a generation of AIDS and queer activism and continues today with international struggle and expression. In 2010, artist Jim Hodges was invited to give a lecture on the billboard project of Félix González-Torres at San Antonioʼs Artpace. He teamed up with fellow filmmakers Carlos Marques da Cruz and Encke King to create Untitled. Neither a portrait or a documentary about González- Torres, the film was an attempt to place the viewer “in his room,” that is to say, the filmmakers worked to create, for the viewer, an understanding of the influences and contexts within which González- UNTITLED Torres was working. In Hodges's words, “In this way, the framing of the artist can become a way to project any number of people, endlessly.” A Film by Untitled can therefore be considered to be as much about González- Jim Hodges, Carlos Marques da Cruz, and Encke King Torres and the AIDS crisis as it can be seen as grappling with the continuum of global dehumanization. PURPOSE OF THIS RESOURCE GUIDE In an effort to honor the sense of endlessness that Untitled suggests, this guide is a resource for provoking both public and private conversation. We have provided you with: • WORDS for engagement regarding HIV/AIDS, art, and culture • THOUGHTS to provoke dialogue • HIV/AIDS TIMELINE • INFORMATION about prevention and wellness • LINKS to extend the conversation CREDITS • Like the film, this Resource Guide hopes to raise more questions than it answers.

bomb the music industry! - album minus band download Music / Bomb the Music Industry! In 2004, Jeff Rosenstock was faced with a conundrum. He wanted to record a song, but his band, The Arrogant Sons Of Bitches, was taking a break. He eventually used his laptop to record it in the bedroom of his parents' house, uploaded it to the internet, and credited to Bomb the Music Industry!. After TASOB broke up, Bomb the Music Industry! became Jeff's main musical focus. By 2008, BtMI! had become more of a musical collective, featuring a slightly different lineup for every song on Scrambles . Over the next three years, the collective trimmed itself down to five more-or-less consistent members with a lot of guests. However, it would only last for two more years, and Bomb the Music Industry! called an indefinite hiatus after their final show on January 19th, 2014, later admitting that there was an "absolute zero" chance of any kind of reunion. They remain surprisingly influential and well known for their DIY ethic which included homemade T-shirts, forming their own record label, and giving away their records for free. In 2017, Jeff composed the music for the Cartoon Network series Craig of the Creek. Bomb the music industry! - album minus band download. According to the Wikipedia: Bomb The Music Industry! is a musical collective from Baldwin, Nassau County, New York. They write, produce, record (sometimes only through the microphone on an iMac), and distribute all of their music under the leadership of lead songwriter and producer Jeff Rosenstock.
