Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), in association with Wordless Music, presents Jeff Mangum (of Neutral Milk Hotel) in a one-night-only solo performance, January 20, at BAM Howard Gilman Opera House BAM 2012 Winter/Spring Season is sponsored by Bloomberg Nov 7, 2011/Brooklyn, NY—BAM announces a special one-night-only performance by influential singer/songwriter Jeff Mangum on January 20, 2012 at 8pm. The former Neutral Milk Hotel frontman will make his BAM debut in a solo acoustic set in BAM’s 2,100-seat Howard Gilman Opera House (30 Lafayette Ave). Mangum, whose roots lie in the Louisiana-bred Elephant 6 musical collective (including Neutral Milk Hotel and colleagues in Olivia Tremor Control and Apples in Stereo) recently returned to performance after a decade-long absence. Neutral Milk Hotel’s seminal 90s recordings include On Avery Island and In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. Jeff Mangum’s acclaimed recent performances have included All Tomorrow’s Parties and an appearance at the Occupy Wall Street protest site. Tickets, priced at $35, go on sale Friday, Nov 11 at 10am (Wednesday, Nov 9 for Friends of BAM). There is a limit of four tickets per household. Purchased tickets are non-transferable and can be picked up at BAM box office only (30 Lafayette Ave) on day of show beginning at 5pm. BAM Harvey Theater is located two blocks from the main building at 651 Fulton Street (between Ashland and Rockwell Places). Both locations house Greenlight Bookstore at BAM kiosks. BAM Rose Cinemas is Brooklyn’s only movie house dedicated to first-run independent and foreign film and repertory programming. BAMcafé, operated by Great Performances, is open for dining prior to BAM Howard Gilman Opera House evening performances. BAMcafé also features an eclectic mix of spoken word and live music for BAMcafé Live on Friday and Saturday nights with a special BAMcafé Live menu available starting at 6pm.
