2013-06-19 13:17 CEST Paradise Lost fejrer 25 år på metal-scenen med koncert i VEGA VEGA & Live Nation præsenterer Paradise Lost fejrer 25 år på metal-scenen med koncert i VEGA Det engelske metal-band Paradise Lost har i år eksisteret i 25 år, og det fejrer bandet med en jubilæumstour, der bl.a. bringer dem til Lille VEGA den 3. september. Her præsenterer de materialet fra deres seneste album, Tragic Idol, der udkom sidste år. 25-års eksperimenter med metal-genren fejres I 1988 dannede sanger Nick Holmes, guitaristerne Greg Mackintosh og Aaron Aedy samt bassist Steve Edmondson bandet Paradise Lost i Halifax, West Yorkshire i England. To år efter udkom bandets selvbetitlede debut, og det blev starten på en glorværdig, 25 år lang karriere indenfor metal-musikken. I 1991 udkom det skelsættende album Gothic, der for alvor var med til at definere doom/death metal-genren, og siden har Paradise Lost på intet mindre end 13 album næsten konstant eksperimenteret med deres lyd og været med til skabe og definere nye genrer og stilarter indenfor metalmusikken. Tilbagevenden til udgangspunktet på seneste album På bandets seneste udgivelse, Tragic Idol fra april 2012, vendte de tilbage til udgangspunktet med et album, der fokuserede på doom/death metal-genren. Albummet fik gode anmeldelser, bl.a. af Gaffas anmelder, der kvitterede med 4/6 stjerner og skrev: ”Det 13. album fra engelske Paradise Lost afviger grundlæggende ikke meget fra forgængeren Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us. Det skal de ikke høre et ondt ord for, for det album byggede på bandets uhyre stærke sangskrivning og en ganske vellykket balancegang mellem Paradise Losts doom metal-rødder og god klassisk heavy metal.” Lyt til nummeret ”Fear of Impending Hell”. Paradise Lost – Live at Rockpalast 1995 (62:27, CD+DVD, MiG-Music, 2019) Beim Rockpalast handelt es sich um eine Fernsehsendung des Westdeutschen Rundfunks, welche mit Unterbrechungen seit 1974 existiert. Im Rahmen des Formates wurden in der Vergangenheit auch immer wieder Festivals produziert, um später die Auftritte der verschiedenen Bands im Fernsehen zu übertragen. Der Titel „Live at Rockpalast 1995“ für dieses Album ist daher erst einmal ein wenig irreführend, da es sich bei vorliegendem Ton- und Bilddokument um den Auftritt von Paradise Lost beim Bizarre Festival 1995 handelt. Das Bizarre existierte zu diesem Zeitpunkt schon seit acht Jahren und war gerade auf dem Weg, sich zu Deutschlands Festival Nummer Eins für alternative Musik jeglicher Couleur zu mausern. Bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt waren u.a. so namhafte Bands wie Siouxsie and the Banshees, New Model Army, Iggy Pop, Einstürzende Neubauten, Ramones, The Pogues, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Bad Religion, Die Ärzte und Biohazard beim Bizarre Festival aufgetreten. Dabei hatte das Festival über die Jahre hinweg immer wieder seinen Veranstaltungsort gewechselt. Nach mehreren Gastspielen in Berlin und auf dem Loreleyfelsen in Sankt Goarshausen sowie Gastspielen in Gießen und Alsfeld, fand das Bizarre 1994 zum ersten Mal in Köln statt. 1995 kehrten die Veranstalter in die Domstadt zurück. Allerdings wählten sie dieses Mal nicht den Kölner Jugendpark als Location, sondern stattdessen einen staubigen und herzlosen Deutzer Parkplatz namens P23 – jenen Ort, an dem schon im Folgejahr mit dem Beginn der Kölnarena (heute Lanxess Arena) begonnen werden sollte. Paradise Lost waren 1995 im Zenit ihres Erfolges angekommen. Die Band aus dem englischen Halifax war Anfang der 90er neben Anathema und My Dying Bride zu den „Big Three“ des Gothic Metal gerechnet worden.

185 Doom, goticismo y metal extremo Salvador Rubio Licenciado en Historia del Arte Universidad Complutense de Madrid Resumen Dentro de ese “término paraguas” que denominamos “metal extremo”, y que se ha ido consolidando a nivel mundial desde su nacimiento en 1981 (progresivamente haciendo sombra a su primo hermano, el heavy metal tradicional), este estilo siempre se ha distinguido por su facilidad para in- 9*,7&7=94)4=9.54=)*=.3R:*3(.&8=2:8.(&1*8`=*85*(.&12*39*=1&8=574;*3.*39*8= del lado más oscuro de cualquier manifestación cultural sonora. Y dentro del metal extremo, se distingue particularmente un cierto esti- lo, o más bien una escisión de él, que ha acertado a tomar lo más granado de ese submundo musical oscuro, igualmente escindido del punk y la new wave, que conocemos habitualmente con términos como “gótico” o “siniestro”. Nos referimos, obviamente, al llamado “doom metal”, el cual nace 4Q(.&12*39*=(43=1&=5:'1.(&(.3=*3=+33+=)*=1&=4'7&=2&,3&=)*=1&='&3)&= británica Paradise Lost, y titulado, de forma evidentemente reveladora, Gothic. A partir de su aporte, especialmente en Reino Unido (y con una predilec- ción especial por la zona de Halifax), bandas como Anathema, My Dying Bride o Esoteric desarrollarán el citado estilo, que pronto se extendería al resto de Europa, y a su vez darían lugar, con la cada vez más importante presencia del componente siniestro en la música, al llamado metal gótico o gothic metal. Paradise Lost – Obsidian (45:18, LP / CD / Digital, Nuclear Blast, 2020) Platz zwei in den deutschen Albumcharts! Kaum zu glauben, aber mit „Obsidian“ haben Paradise Lost gerade die beste Chartsplatzierung ihrer Bandgeschichte in Deutschland geschafft. Dies ist nicht wirklich verwunderlich, denn auf ihrem neuen Album klingen die Briten wieder weitaus zugänglicher als noch auf ihren letzten beiden Veröffentlichungen. Dies war kaum zu erwarten, denn auf „The Plague Within“ (2015) und „Medusa“ (2017) hatten Paradise Lost den Weg zurück zu ihren Wurzeln im Death Doom gefunden. Beide Alben waren stilistisch am ehesten mit ihrem 1990er Debütalbum „Lost Paradise“ vergleichbar, was unter anderem anNick Holmes‚ wiedergefunder Liebe zu seinen Growls lag. Für viele Fans der ersten Stunde war dies eine Offenbarung, doch Musikliebhaber, welche die Briten erst Mitte oder gar Ende der 90er kennengelernt hatten, konnten mit dieser Entwicklung nur wenig anfangen. Mit „Obsidian“ dürfte sich dies nun ändern, denn Paradise Lost ist das Kunststück gelungen, mit ihrem neuen Album eine Brücke über ihre gesamte 32 Jahre andauernde Musikkarriere zu spannen. Für alle jene, welche die Band bisher nicht kannten: auf ihr Debütalbum „Lost Paradise“ folgte mit „Gothic“ nur ein Jahr später ein Werk, welches ein ganzes Musikgenre prägen sollte: den Gothic Metal. Zu jener Zeit bildeten sie mit ihren Peaceville-Labelkollegen Anathema und My Dying Bride das Triumvirat des Doom Metal. Mit „Shades of God“ (1992) und „Icon“ (1993) wandten sich Paradise Lost von den Growls der Anfangstage ab und erreichten ein breiteres Publikum, wonach ihnen mit „Draconian Times“ (1995) und „One Second“ (1997) der endgültige Durchbruch gelingen sollte. Of those War Atrocities is a solo project existing since bands, you could say that they are in the style 2011, handled by Wastelander (guitars & of Grand Magus, old Manowar and High On vocals) and hailing from Croatia. Style can be Fire, speaking very broadly about the general described as black/thrash metal with sounds of this band, a type of traditional speed/crust influences, accompanied by doom-ish heavy metal.
