In the present work, the elderberry (E) and rhubarb (R) strains were each purified and separated into their middle (M) and bottom (B) components by sucrose gradient centrifugation followed by near- equilibrium banding in cesium chloride. RNA was extracted from the the separated components by treatment with a dissociation buffer followed by sucrose gradient centrifugation. Extracted M-RNA of E-strain and B-RNA of R-strain were mixed and inoculated to a series of test plants as were M-RNA of R-strain and B-RNA of E-strain. -

Magney California Native Plant Society, Rare Plant Program, Locally Rare Project Updated 4 January 2017 Ventura County is located in southern California, USA, along the east edge of the Pacific Ocean. The coastal portion occurs along the south and southwestern quarter of the County. Ventura County is bounded by Santa Barbara County on the west, Kern County on the north, Los Angeles County on the east, and the Pacific Ocean generally on the south (Figure 1, General Location Map of Ventura County). Ventura County extends north to 34.9014ºN latitude at the northwest corner of the County. The County extends westward at Rincon Creek to 119.47991ºW longitude, and eastward to 118.63233ºW longitude at the west end of the San Fernando Valley just north of Chatsworth Reservoir. The mainland portion of the County reaches southward to 34.04567ºN latitude between Solromar and Sequit Point west of Malibu. When including Anacapa and San Nicolas Islands, the southernmost extent of the County occurs at 33.21ºN latitude and the westernmost extent at 119.58ºW longitude, on the south side and west sides of San Nicolas Island, respectively. Ventura County occupies 480,996 hectares [ha] (1,188,562 acres [ac]) or 4,810 square kilometers [sq. km] (1,857 sq. miles [mi]), which includes Anacapa and San Nicolas Islands. The mainland portion of the county is 474,852 ha (1,173,380 ac), or 4,748 sq. -

Searching for palaeontological evidence of viruses that multiply in Insecta and Acarina. Acta zoologica cracoviensia, 46(suppl.– Fossil Insects): 37-50. Abstract. Viruses are known to be agents of important diseases of Insecta and Acarina, and many vertebrate and plant viruses have arthropods as propagative vectors. There is fossil evidence of arthropod pathogens for some micro-organisms, but not for viruses. Iso- lated virions would be hard to detect but, in fossil material, it could be easier to find traces of virus infection, mainly virus-induced cellular structures (VICS), easily recognisable by electron microscopy, such as virions encapsulated in protein occlusion bodies, aggregates of membrane-bounded virus particles and crystalline arrays of numerous virus particles. The following main taxa of viruses that multiply in arthropods are discussed both for some of their evolutionary aspects and for the VICS they cause in arthropods: A. dsDNA Poxviridae, Asfarviridae, Baculoviridae, Iridoviridae, Polydnaviridae and Ascoviridae, infecting mainly Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera and Acarina; B. ssDNA Parvoviridae, infecting mainly Diptera and Lepidoptera; C. dsRNA Reoviridae and Bir- naviridae, infecting mainly Diptera, Hymenoptera and Acarina, and plant viruses also multiplying in Hemiptera; D. Nicotiana clevelandii A. Gray, DESERT TOBACCO. Annual, taprooted, rosetted, 1-stemmed at base, erect, 15–60 cm tall; shoots glandular-villous, the hairs of unequal lengths with elongated, yellowish light brown heads, ill-smelling. Stems: cylindric, to 4 mm diameter. Leaves: helically alternate, simple, petiolate (lower leaves) and ± sessile (upper cauline leaves), without stipules; petiole hemi-cylindric, to 15 mm long, << blade, often with narrow wings; blade ovate to lanceolate, in range 30–70 × 16–35 mm, broadly tapered to tapered at base, entire, acute to acuminate at tip, pinnately veined with principal veins sunken on upper surface and raised on lower surface, initially glandular-villous becoming sparsely pubescent having hairs remaining on margins and lower surface midrib. Inflorescence: raceme or panicle of racemes, terminal, leafy, bracteate, glandular-villous; bract associated with each lateral branch and lower flower (bractlet), leaflike but smaller and lanceolate, ± sessile, the narrower upper ones not always at nodes; pedicel at anthesis several mm long increasing to 10 mm long in fruit. Flower: bisexual, radial, 8−10 mm across; calyx 5(−6)-lobed, 8−10 mm long; tube bell-shaped, 3.5–4 mm long, ribbed, the ribs continuing into lobes, sometimes red or blackish; lobes narrowly triangular to conspicuously unequal and linear-lanceolate, the upper 1(2) lobes 4–6 mm long, the other lobes 3–4 mm long; corolla 5-lobed, trumpet-shaped (salverform), sparsely villous, in bud lobes strongly twisted; tube-throat cylindric, 13–20 mm long, greenish white, 15-veined; lobes broad and short, 1.5−2.5 × 4.5–5 mm, white and purple-tinged, with midvein rib on lower surface; stamens 5, fused to corolla tube ca. -

Three quarterly reports have previously been prepared by RECON in 2012. Information from those reports is summarized below for tasks completed between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012. This annual report also summarizes the results of the relevé vegetation surveys that were conducted in spring 2012 at the treatment sites, as well as the results of the bird point count monitoring. The Central City Preserve is in the central portion of the city of Chula Vista, east of Interstate 805, south of State Route 54 and Bonita Road, and north of Otay Lakes Road (Figure 1; see Attachment 1 for all Figures and Photographs). -
