Overview of CGM Nanning

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Nanning, Zhuang Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China was established on 19 June 2015, covering the consular districts of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Province. It is the 5th Consulate General of Malaysia in China after Malaysia opened its Consulates General in Special Administrative Region (1971), (1994), (1999) and (2004).

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Nanning is also the 6th diplomatic mission in Nanning City, after the Consulates General of , Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

THE NEW CONSUL GENERAL OF MALAYSIA IN NANNING

Mr. Azlimi Zakaria has been appointed as the new Consul General of Malaysia in Nanning, succeeding the helm from Mr. Bong Yik Jui. Mr. Azlimi arrived in Nanning in April 2019, making this as his third assignment abroad after his previous stints in Madrid and Dili.

JAN 25, 2019: YB Tuan Tan Kok Wai, Malaysia’s Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to

The People’s Republic of China and Chairman of Malaysia-China Business Council arrived in Guangxi to visit the China-Malaysia Industrial Park (CMQIP). The Malaysian Special Envoy had also taken the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on the Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, H.E. Wu in Nanning. The two discussed matters concerning trade and investment and the Twin Parks project.

Official Visit by Malaysia Foreign Minister to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

SEPT 10, 2019: As a part of his five-day working visit to China in conjunction with the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of Malaysia-China diplomatic ties, YB Datuk , the Foreign Minister of Malaysia visited Nanning and Qinzhou, two cities in Guangxi. The full day visit to Guangxi saw YB Datuk Saifuddin paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, H.E. , and visited China- Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP), as a testament of Malaysia’s ongoing commitment towards the success of the Twin Parks Project.

Official Visit by Minister of International Trade and Industry Malaysia

YB Datuk , presided the Malaysia Commodity Pavilion at 16th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) 2019

SEPT 19, 2019: YB Datuk Darell Leiking, Minister of International Trade and Industry led the Malaysian delegation to the 16th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) in Nanning, China from 19 to 21 September 2019.

Other high-level participations from Malaysia included YB Kulasegaran, Minister of Human Resources, YB Tuan , Deputy Minister of Communication and Multimedia, and YB Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari, as well as YB Rodziah Ismail, EXCO Member of State. Additionally, YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Halim Mohammad, Chairman MATRADE and YBhg. Dato’ Wan Latiff Wan Musa, CEO MATRADE were also present. The 16th CAEXPO in 2019 marked the 16th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership. The theme of the 16th CAEXPO is “Building Belt & Road Routes, Realizing Our Vision for Community of Shared Future”.

SEPT 18, 2019: Upon special invitation by the Guangxi Government, YAB Dato’ Sri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Chief Minister of Pahang led the Pahang State delegation to Nanning and Qinzhou on the sidelines of the 16th China-ASEAN EXPO 2019. Among the highlights of the visit included a courtesy call on H.E. Chen Wu, Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, as well as a visit to China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP)

Official Visit by Deputy Chief Minister cum Sabah Minister of Trade and Industry

SEPT 19, 2019: Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Trade and Industry Sabah undertook an official visit to Nanning in conjunction with the 16th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) in Nanning, China from 19 to 21 September 2019.

Apart from CAEXPO, The Deputy Chief Minister also led the delegation to visit China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP), and a bilateral meeting with Nanning Municipal Bureau of Commerce and China Datang Corporation.

SEPT 19, 2019: YB Datuk Darell Leiking, Minister of International Trade and Industry led the Malaysian Delegation to the 16th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) in Nanning from 19-21 September 2019. The theme for the 16th CAEXPO was “Building the Belt & Road, Realizing Our Vision for a Community of Shared Future”.

According to the organizers, 2,848 enterprises participated in this year's expo to showcase their products, an increase of 2.4 percent from the event last year. Notable participations included industry leaders, Fortune 500 companies and notable private businesses. Malaysia’s participation included 167 Small and Medium Enterprises

(SMEs) that showcased their products and services at the Malaysian Commodity Pavilion.

The event served as a platform for ASEAN and China to interact and form a network of trade and investment cooperation in various fields including trade, investment,

digital economy, science and technology, finance, e-commerce and tourism.

SEPT 20, 2019: Tourism Selangor represented Malaysia for the – City of Charm exhibition during the 16th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) 2019 in Nanning. It was launched by the Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Datuk Darell Leiking together with Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari, EXCO of Culture and Tourism,

Traditions and Malay Heritage of Selangor State, Consul General of Malaysia in Nanning, Chairman and CEO MATRADE and Mr. Liu Zhengdong, Vice Chairman of CPPCC Guangxi Committee on 20 September 2019.

Based on the statement by Selangor Tourism, nearly 842,000 Chinese Tourist had

arrived in Selangor in the first half of 2019, an increase of 8.80% from the previous year. The figure is expected to grow primarily with the active participation of Selangor Tourism in the Convention and global tourism exhibitions such as CAEXPO 2019.

PRODUCT CARNIVAL

SEPT 20, 2019: On the side line of the 16th CAEXPO 2019, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Nanning and MATRADE, with a major collaboration with China Post Guangxi Branch had organized the China-Malaysia Cross-Border E-Commerce Product Carnival on 20 September 2019.

The event was officiated by YB Datuk Darell Liking, Minister MITI, and Mr. Li Kaile, General Manager of China Post Guangxi Branch. Also present were Malaysia’s Consul General in Nanning, EXCO from Selangor, and the Chairman and CEO of

MATRADE.

The event took place at the China Post Guangxi Branch Headquarters and featured an extensive array of Malaysian products. The main crowd-puller were Musang King durians which had attracted hundreds of local attendees.

SEPT 20, 2019: In conjunction with CAEXPO 2019, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) in collaboration with the Chinese Construction Bank (CCB) had organized a Business Matching Session Programme (B2B) as another innovative method to strengthen the economic cooperation of the two countries.

MAR 5, 2019: The Malaysian Consul General held a meeting with the Guangxi Forestry Industry Association on 5 March 2019 to discuss possible future cooperation between Malaysia and Guangxi in areas forestry.

May 29, 2019: The Consul General received a courtesy call from Mr Baidzawi Che Mat, Chief Executive Officer of East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC). Mr. Baidzawi was accompanied

by representatives from Malaysia-China Industrial Park (MCKIP), Kuantan Port, and Beibu Gulf Port Group.

JULY 4, 2019: The Consulate General of Malaysia had a meeting with China Post Guangxi Branch on 4 July 2019. The meeting discussed on ways to promote Malaysian products via the e-commerce platform in China.

JULY 23, 2019: The Malaysian Consul General paid a visit to the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) Secretariat and had a meeting with the Secretary General of CAEXPO, Mr. Wang Lei. CAEXPO is the biggest annual event in Guangxi and participated by the ten ASEAN Member States and China. Nanning has been

established as the permanent host of CAEXPO.

INTERVIEW BY NANNING RADIO AND TELEVISION STATION (NRT)

July 24, 2019: In order to strengthen and expand Malaysia’s presence in Nanning, the

Consul General of Malaysia had particpated in an interview session conducted by Nanning Radio and Television Station. The interview covered various topics from the Consul General’s impression on Nanning to more substantive matters including trade exchanges between ASEAN and China, as well as the role of China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) in promoting Malaysia-China trade.

July 29, 2019: The Consul General paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Zhou Hongbo, Mayor of Nanning.

Mayor Zhou Hongbo welcomed Mr. Azlimi as the new Consul General of Malaysia in Nanning, while reiterating the great significance of Nanning’s relations with Malaysia. Both sides were instrumental on the warm friendly relations that had led to the excellent cooperation between the two in various

activities.

WORKING VISIT TO CHINA POST GUANGXI BRANCH

AUG 3, 2019: Officials from the Consulate General of Malaysia in Nanning, together with officials from MATRADE and MIDA offices from Guangzhou visited China Post, branch Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on 3 August 2019. The visit came upon the invitation of Mr. He Beizu, Vice General Manager of Guangxi Post after he paid a courtesy call on the Consul-General on 30 July 2019.

th NOV 2, 2019: The Consul General attended the 12 China-ASEAN (Baise) Modern Agriculture Exhibition and Trade Fair from 7-10 November 2019. The China- ASEAN (Baise) Modern Agriculture Exhibition and Trade Fair is an annual event aimed at promoting the development, communication and cooperation of

agricultural industries and cooperation between Baise and ASEAN countries.

KUANTAN DAY @ QINZHOU CITY, GUANGXI

NOV 13, 2019: A delegation from Kuantan, led by YB En. Abd Rahim Muda, Pahang EXCO Member, and YH Dato’ Haji Hamdan Hussin from Kuantan Municipality, together with the Consul General were invited to attend the 2019 Kuantan Day. The event was held in Qinzhou in Guangxi and showcased dazzling cultural performances from both Qinzhou and Kuantan.

Kuantan/Qinzhou Day, is an annual event held alternately between Kuantan and

Qinzhou. Both cities are the locations for Malaysia-China’s "two countries, two industrial parks", namely the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP) and the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP). These two parks have been established as a flagship project of Malaysia-China cooperation and demonstration zone.

The Mayor of Qinzhou, Mr. Tan Pichuang expressed his hope for faster development for both Kuantan and Qinzhou following the establishments of the new Land-Sea Trade Corridor, and the new China Pilot Free Trade Zones.

ARRIVAL OF THE FIRST BATCH OF MALAYSIA’S RAW- UNCLEANED BIRDNEST TO CHINA

NOV 20, 2019: After much delay, the first batch of 150kg of Malaysia’s raw and uncleaned bird’s nests had finally made its way to CMQIP on 20 November 2019. A ceremony was held by the Malaysian company responsible for importing the bird’s nests, Jing Yan (Guangxi) Birdnest Limited. The Consul-General of Malaysia in Nanning, as well as the Agriculture Attaché from were present at the ceremony. Mr. Gao Pu, the Executive Deputy Director-General of CMQIP and other high level officials from the park were also present.

APPRECIATION DINNER IN CONJUCTION WITH THE 45TH ANNIVERSARY OF MALAYSIA-CHINA DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS AND VISIT MALAYSIA YEAR 2020

In view of the 45th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations between Malaysia and China and as an initial introduction to Visit Malaysia Year 2020, the Consul General of Malaysia in Nanning hosted a dinner as a gesture of appreciation for the assistance and cooperation rendered by the Guangxi and Nanning Foreign Affairs Offices (FAO), and China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) Secretariat to the Consulate. The event took place on 27 November 2019 at the Consulate General Office. Among those attended were Mr. Shi Donglong, Director- General of Guangxi FAO, Mr. Zeng Zhong, Deputy Director-General of CAEXPO Secretariat, and Ms. Peng Jian, Director of Nanning FAO.

As an introduction to Malaysian flavors, an array of tantalizing traditional dishes were prepared by PERWAKILAN for the evening. Among others, these included asam pedas melaka, ayam goreng berempah, sambal tumis udang, and ulam-ulaman.

June 28, 2019: The officials from Consulate General of Malaysia in Nanning attended an event organized by the Consulate General of Thailand in Nanning, called Thai-Afternoon Tea.

The event was also attended by other officials from ASEAN Consulates in

H.E. Amb. Chairat Porntipwarawet, Representative of Royal Thai Consulate- General in Nanning, whom has been appointed as the Ambassador of Royal Thai in Bucharest. H.E. Amb. Chairat is expected to depart for his new assignment on 17 December 2019.

JULY 13, 2019: The Consulate General of Malaysia in Nanning had hosted “Majlis Ramah Mesra” and Hari Raya Celebration at the Chancery. The celebration was attended by Malaysian community in Guangxi and Guizhou. Guests were served with traditional Malaysian fares like Nasi Impit, Ketupat Palas, Rendang Daging, Kuah Kacang, Nasi Briyani and desserts prepared by PERWAKILAN.

The Consul General also took the opportunity to meet and greet with

Malaysians at the event.

NOV 16, 2019: In relation to the visit by Bahagain Inspektorat to the Consulate General in Nanning, the Consul General had hosted a dinner as a-meet-and-greet opportunity between the delegation and the Malaysian diaspora in Nanning. The dinner was attended by the Malaysian business community in Nanning as well as Malaysian students studying in local univeristies.

OCT 23, 2019: In conjunction with Bulan Sukan Negara announced by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia this year, the Consulate General of Malaysia had organized a 'Brisk Walking' activity at Nanhu Lake.

The activity was participated by officers and staff of the Consulate including families and Malaysians residing in Nanning.

Visit Malaysia 2020

Visit Malaysia 2020 brings out the best of what Malaysia has to offer to the world in a single, event-packed year. The year 2020 holds a special place in the heart of all Malaysians as we reflect and celebrate all our successes and challenges in transforming a once colonial land, into a thriving, multi-cultural and dynamic country.

For a country rich in culture and natural wonders as our beloved Malaysia, tourism can certainly be a great economic pillar. Improving the sustainability of tourism, arts and culture in Malaysia is this a responsibility of paramount importance. Each element in the logo individually showcase the diversity of experiences a tourist may embark on only on Malaysian soil. In addition to giving foreign tourists a taste of Malaysia’s bountiful offerings, the features in the logo also urges local Malaysians to advocate the preservation of our country’s identity as the nation moves forward in this fast-moving era of globalisation.

Design Elements

The style of the logo is inspired by Malaysian Batik. The magnificent rhinoceros hornbill is perched on the left side of the logo. The iconic bird illustrates the unique fauna and eco-adventures that Malaysia has to offer. A red hibiscus adorns the top right of the logo. In the national language, Bahasa Malaysia, the hibiscus is known as “bunga raya”, loosely translated to “flower of celebration”. The flowers encapsulates the celebration of cultural diversity in Malaysia. The wild fern below the hibiscus is locally known as “paku pakis”. The edible plant is a favourite among Malaysians of all races, and is apt to represent the unique flavours of Malaysian cuisine.

Colours

The main colours blue, red and yellow used in the logo represent the colors of the national flag, Jalur Gemilang. The orange colour illustrates the year-round sunshine Malaysia receives. Lastly, the green colour represents the abundance of nature in Malaysia. The brilliance of these colours is eye-catching, and invites the onlooker to take a closer look.

While Malaysia has previously hosted four Visit Malaysia year since 1990, the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2020 will be held with a renewed vigour and passion. The focus on hornbill, batik, our national flower and the multi-colour theme reflect our desire look deep within, appreciate what we have, and showcase it to the world with pride.
