DANA NICOLE GRIFFIN WARDROBE STYLIST * COSTUMER LOCAL 705*

Dana Griffin is a product of Hollywood fashion. Not necessarily [email protected] the Hollywood glitz and glamour associated with film premieres 323 371 9626 office and magazine covers, though they are definitely part of her resume, but also the Hollywood style of creative teenagers running the streets and finding inspiration in the barrios and thrift stores and the underground music scenes of Los Angeles, borrowing ideas from the fashion-forward Japanese tourists flocking to Hollywood Boulevard and the fringe- dwellers of Venice beach both. Immersed in Hollywood, these kids riffed on cutting edge fashion to create an edgy look all their own, which in turn went on to influence fashionistas like David LaChapelle, Rick Owens and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Dana was one such kid, growing up in central Hollywood and attending Fairfax High, a diverse, creative and urban public school which famously spawned half of Guns N’ Roses and most of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. There she was deep into the punk and New Wave music of the late 1980s and its ensuing outrageous fashions. (quote about music and fashion, how they go hand in hand, maybe some of the artists who were most inspiring, Siouxie, Bowie etc)

“When I was really young, five or six, my stepdad used to bring me home Vogue magazines because I didn’t like the clothes regular paper dolls came with, so I made my own from the pages of fashion magazines,” Dana recalls. “I must say, it brought me the biggest joy!”

That passion for style and fashion continues through today in Dana Griffin’s work. When not on set or on location, she fills her free time searching for unusual fabrics and scouring Southern California for vintage treasures, sewing her own pieces and creating new fashion from old. And yes, she still collages with pages from glossy magazines, only now Dana’s high fashion paper dolls are often wearing clothes that she has styled
