The bottom line here is nothing more than a sim- ple word: enough. Violence has gone too far in this country, and in this city. We have come to accept the unacceptable as normal. In what society is it normal to be afraid to leave your own home? Your home is supposed to be your safe haven. A place where you feel nothing can go wrong. A place where you can teach your children right from wrong and show them that they can be impor- tant, that they can make a difference in this world. That is what a home should be. Nothing can go wrong in your home. But if you con- sider the violence that has gone on in the city of New Haven since the beginning of the summer, nothing has gone right.
