MOZART IN THE JUNGLE Season 2 Q&A Jason Schwartzman (Creator, Writer, Executive Producer) Paul Weitz (Executive Producer) What’s exciting about the new season? Jason Schwartzman: We’re joined by so many more guest stars and luminaries from the classical music world: Gustavo Dudamel, Joshua Bell, Lang Lang and Emanuel Ax. Paul Weitz: Basically people in the classical music world saw Season 1 and it’s kind of a guilty pleasure for them but we started to get incoming calls from people who wanted to be on the show. Schwartzman: We also have Dermot Mulroney and Gretchen Mol. The cast feels like there’s a lot more going on, more epic in that way. Why does the show appeal to non-classical fans? Weitz: It’s a show about a large, dysfunctional family and two outsiders who are entering the family. There’s Hailey, a young oboist who has been practicing since the age of 5 and has been the “good girl” for most of her life. And now as we enter Season 2, she’s questioning what she wants out of this. Does she want to be an instrument of orchestra or does she want to one day have a solo career. How, if you’re not used to it, are you the person who breaks up in a relationship? Are you able to have an ill-advised fling now and then and take ownership of your sexuality? She’s reinventing herself in a positive way. And Gael Garcia Bernal’s character, Rodrigo, is the other character. He’s a superstar, but he’s fairly isolated. -

Barnes President Chris Orr Principal June McBride Board of Trustees Director of Finance David Desmond ’94 The Board of Trustees at Christian Brothers High School is comprised of 11 volunteers Assistant Principal dedicated to safeguarding and advancing the school’s Lasallian Catholic college preparatory mission. Before joining the Board of Trustees, candidates undergo Michelle Williams training on Lasallian charism (history, spirituality and philosophy of education) and Assistant Principal Policy Governance, a model used by Lasallian schools throughout the District of Myra Makelim San Francisco New Orleans. In the 2017–18 school year, the board welcomed two new Human Resources Director members, Marianne Evashenk and Heidi Harrison. David Walrath serves in the role of chair and Mr. Stephen Mahaney ’69 is the vice chair. Kristen McCarthy Director of Admissions & The Policy Governance model comprises an inclusive, written set of goals for the school, Communications called Ends Policies, which guide the board in monitoring the performance of the school through the President/CEO. Ends Policies help ensure that Christian Brothers High Nancy Smith-Fagan School adheres to the vision of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and the District Director of Advancement of San Francisco New Orleans. “The Board thanks the families who have entrusted their children to our school,” says Chair David Walrath. “We are constantly amazed by our unbelievable students. Chris Boarts-Larson, ABC No Rio Kurt Cobain once told an interviewer, “punk rock should mean freedom.”1 The Nirvana singer was arguing that punk, as an idea, had the potential to tran- scend the boundaries of any particular sound or style, allowing musicians an enormous degree of artistic autonomy. But while punk music has often served as a platform for creative expression and symbolic protest, its libratory potential stems from a more fundamental source. Punk, at its core, is a form of direct action. Instead of petitioning the powerful for inclusion, the punk movement has built its own elaborate network of counter-institutions, including music venues, media, record labels, and distributors.
