THE SEED THAT WAS SOWN IN THE COLONY OF GEORGIA THE HARVEST AND THE AFTERMATH 1740-1870 BY CHARLES SPALDING WYLLY New York and Washington THE NEALE PUBLISHING COMPANY 1910 2 This transcript was typed by Amy Hedrick February 2006 3 4 Copyright, 1910, by THE NEALE PUBLISHING COMPANY 5 This work is respectfully inscribed to my friend, C. Downing, of Brunswick, Georgia, whose clear brain, kind heart and free hand is an example and inspiration "An honest heart is one that strongly feels The pulse of passion and the throb of pain, But asks assistance from a healthy brain To stem all morbid current sentiment, should it steal Into the veins with darkening stain; A heart light beating, which may reveal The torch of sin but struggles free again, Repentant, looking to the Lamb who heals. Not such my heart, a football for the crowd, Now high in air, now trampled on the ground, Till bruised, benumbed, and ossified, it lies, And mercy, Lord, should mutter ere it dies. 6 7 PREFACE When a writer has assumed the burden of reviewing the result of any great national decision it is impossible to ignore the surroundings and environments of the participants therein. The beliefs held by the adverse parties as essential articles of their faith become not only the causes but personages in the conflict: To one party immediate increase of prosperity and probable wealth seemed a creed entitled to universal assent. To a smaller number a patient awaiting for a natural growth and strength appeared a wiser choice. The first asserted "That in this climate a white man could not labor," the other claimed "That in a year a white man's labor was more than that of a slave." I have but moved the shadow backward on the dial: where now does it point? In endeavoring to give concisely and truthfully the political steps that finally led to the Break, I have been mindful that to the children of to-day the war of the sixties seems but "old history" and that any investigation into the causes of that war would appear like a groping for a former life, through and by the footprints found in fossil remains.

Dr. John McLaren McBryde and Mrs. E. L. Cornman and Mrs. James Grant Tracy of the Bayard Line. PREFACE In presenting the history and genealogy as contained in the following pages the author does not for one moment claim to have included the issue of each line or of each marriage, nor of all those descended from each family, but rather to carry out th- descent of the direct line of the family to the first American l - cestor, from whence those descended can arrive to that positic i where they can conveniently trace their lineage from the frs ancestor arriving in America. In the forthcoming pages many who have no record or w have not become members of any patriotic bodies or who hs failed to avail themselves at a critical period of the requisite information, will find much aid in being enabled to trace t some ancestor their lineage as contained herein. .. It may be very difficult in time to trace the lineage of the _^ who, living in a country filled with an admixture of varioi , races, to prove their pure blood from American ancestors who settled in this country, unless we keep a true record.

Scottish Victoria Cross Awards Corporal William Anderson, VC, 2nd Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, was born at Dallas, Elgin on 28 December 1882. He was the second son of Alexander Anderson, a Labourer, and Isabella (Bella) Anderson, of 79 North Road, Forres, where he was educated at Forres Academy. His siblings were James, Margaret and Alexander. After working as a Conductor at Glasgow Tramways Depot, he moved to London then enlisted in the 2nd Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment on 20 September 1905, serving in India, Egypt and South Africa. His brother, James, served in the same regiment. He was discharged to the Reserve in 1912 and worked at Elder Hospital, Govan, saving money so that he and his fiancee could emigrate to South Africa. However, before they could leave war broke out and he was called up as a reservist. He was mobilised and sent to his old battalion in 1914, where he was known as 'Jock'. Now a Corporal, on 5 October 1914, he embarked for Flanders with the four Companies of the 2nd Battalion. Two weeks later they were taking part in the First Battle of Ypres and involved in some of the fiercest fighting. The regiment was being supplied with 96,000 rounds of ammunition each night. By the end of this engagement Corporal Anderson was in charge of a bombing unit. The aim of a bombing unit was to gain access to an enemy trench, from which they would throw grenades round a corner, immediately following up the explosion with an attack with bayoneting, Captain Rollo and Corporal Anderson bludgeoning, shooting, bombing or taking resting at Fleurbaix in 1914.

The McPhersons of Portsoy, 1752-1926 The Life, Times and Descendants of William McPherson and Elspet Duff Reynold Macpherson, 1 August 2011 The earliest known artefact of the Porstoy McPhersons Not for sale, free download available from www.reynoldmacpherson.ac.nz 1 The McPhersons of Portsoy, 1752-1926 The Life, Times and Descendants of William McPherson and Elspet Duff Reynold Macpherson,1 1 August 2011 Introduction William McPherson is earliest confirmed ancestor of the Sinclair Macphersons. He was probably born in 1752 in the nearby town of Banff. He settled in Portsoy (see right, today). He married Elspet Duff in 1800. He was a „flesher‟ (butcher) and provided for a large family. He ended his days in Portsoy. At least four generations of his descendants lived there, the last known to be alive in 1926. The White Pages today have no McPhersons, Macphersons or MacPhersons living in Portsoy. This chapter describes the life and times of the Portsoy McPhersons. The History of Portsoy The four generations of McPhersons lived in a context very different than today. Portsoy has long been the port at the outlet of the Soy River between Banff and Buckie on the Moray (pronounced Murray) Firth Coast. It is about 50 miles northwest of Aberdeen, and about the same distance east of Inverness. While its fortunes have fluctuated over time (SHO, 2010), the hinterland‟s rich soils and ample rain have always guaranteed the growth of oats and other crops and animals. Portsoy was created a „burgh of barony‟ in 1550, about 250 years before the first McPherson arrived.

Minister of the First Chargk of Inverness, Ex-Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. ^ f^ PREFACE. The matter contained in the following pages was originally intended to be read before local societies which take an interest in such subjects, but having been seen by the Editor of the "Inverness Coimer," ho thought it sufl&ciently interesting to print in the paper, and now in this f onn. Whatever belongs to the past is interesting to some people, while to others anything relating to the town or parish, historically or ecclesiastically, is worthy of record, and although the number of such people arc few, yet it is hoped they may justify to some extent the present pro- duction. Tlie few excellent works on local aflfairs already existing do not include the pei-iod embraced by these Kirk-Session Records, nor do they deal with the matters of detail con- tained in them, which afford some new ilhistrations of the conditions of life in Inverness in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries. Necessarily in these Church Records of over 200 years ago, when discipline formed so large a part of the functions of the Kirk-Session, life in its seamy side appears uppermost, but there are not wanting glimpses of the better and kindlier side of Inmian natiu'e, nor of the more elevating, if rather austere, social and religious habits and customs of our ancestors.

  • Dear , Thank You for Your Information Request of 29 June 2016. Aberdeen
From: Foi Enquiries To: Subject: FOI-16-0935 - Licensed Taxis Date: 28 July 2016 08:58:29 Attachments: Further Information - Right to Review & Appeal.pdf FOI-16-0935 - Taxi Drivers 25.07.16.xlsx Dear , Thank you for your information request of 29 June 2016. Aberdeen City Council (ACC) has completed the necessary search for the information requested. Our company is developing a mobile app where the taxi drivers can download and use it as a booking system in order to get to their passengers, Passengers can do the same using the application. We intend to sell it to the drivers at a very minimal one off product / maintenance cost and no intention of taking any commission. The intention is to help the local community licensed drivers to earn more. Our app does not accept payment, it is still done via taxi drivers at the metered or agreed rate, we merely are connecting drivers and passengers via smart mobile application. We also do not set our pricing, this is still done via licensed meters or taxi operator pricing. This app is only sold to either a council approved and licensed taxi driver (hackney carriage / black cabs etc) or a council approved taxi operator. We would be grateful if you could clarify the below please. 1. Do we need permission from yourselves before we launch the application, if so what documentation or other things is necessary from us for the approval process. 2. Safety being the biggest priority of our company values, Could you also provide us with a list of registered taxi drivers as we only intend to sell this to registered licensed taxi drivers so that we can cross check when somebody is buying from us? 3.
