Introduction and methods This report includes findings from an exit survey conducted as part of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)’s inquiry into the anticipated merger between Sainsbury’s and Asda. The survey was conducted in September and October 2018. In this introductory chapter, we set out the research objectives and provide background information on the sample and the methodology used to obtain the results. © Kantar Public 2017 3 Background and sample design This study forms part of the consumer survey research commissioned to provide evidence for the CMA’s inquiry into the anticipated merger between Sainsbury’s and Asda (the Merger Parties or Parties). The research involved short exit interviews conducted at a sample of the physical stores belonging to the Parties.
