The North East Economy Notable News NORTH EAST ECONOMY: NOTABLE GOOD NEWS Introduction by Graham Robb We have conducted some evaluation of announcements published in the regional press about private sector growth in the North East. The research has sought out positive news to balance the negative. We are simply logging these good news stories every week, and have done so since the end of summer 2010. It makes interesting reading and I invite any organisation or individual to quote from it when talking about our region in public. The most interesting conclusion I have reached is that the rate of growth in the private sector is already in excess of the rate of job losses predicted in the public sector. For example BBC TV/Experian predicted 28,000 job losses in the North East over four years in its special programme about public spending cuts transmitted on 9th Sep 2010. This document provides strong evidence of new innovation, growing exports and new starter businesses throughout the North East. It is a live document and will be updated frequently.
