My impression couldn't have been more off! Many years later, I live so close to Napa and Sonoma that I go about twice a month -- and have explored wineries and tasting rooms all over California. What I love about it is that it offers something for everyone. Whether you're a newbie wine connoisseur or an aficionado looking for new places to explore, I bet this wine country extravaganza has something for you. Let's start with Napa; since as the most famous name of California wine country, it's a great place to begin our adventure. There's much rivalry between those who love Napa and those who swing Sonoma. I'm here to tell you that you can like both. And with all the talk of getting off the beaten path (we'll get there), I thought it'd be fun to start with the classics. First-time visitors to the area should start with a leisurely drive up Highway 29.     THE NAPA VALLEY VISITOR PROFILE 2018 FINAL REPORT OF FINDINGS MAY 2019 RESEARCH PREPARED FOR VISIT NAPA VALLEY BY Research Overview This report presents the findings of a comprehensive visitor profile development study conducted by Destination Analysts, Inc. on behalf of Visit Napa Valley. The data presented here comes from three sources: • The Napa Valley Lodging Guest Survey. • The Napa Valley Visitor Intercept Survey of day-trip visitors and visiting friends or relatives staying overnight in private homes (VFRs). • Online Panel Survey & Telephone Survey of Napa County Homes conducted at the end of 2018 to quantify the number of VFRs who stayed overnight in a private home in the area. This survey was administered to 300 randomly selected homes in the Napa County Destination Analysts’ research staff member interviewing visitors at Robert Mondavi The data collected in these surveys was used to estimate the actual volume of lodging guests and visiting friends and relatives (VFRs) who come to the Napa Valley during the year. The third segment of visitors, day-trip visitors, was estimated using the relative incidence of lodging guests to day-trip visitors seen in the data collected in the Visitor Intercept Survey. Using the visitor volume estimates that emerged from this process, the survey data was weighted to develop the overall visitor profile. The new design juxtaposes Silverado’s history with modern luxuries and a light and airy style befitting the Napa Valley. Inspired by the 19th century colonial design of the historic mansion, project leaders at Backen, Gillam & Kroeger Architects and SWA Group revamped indoor meeting and function space with custom carpet bordered by white oak hardwood, oil-rubbed bronze, aged brick, and linen, bringing forward the rustic, agrarian culture of wine country.
