We went through every emotion - shock, uncertainty, hope, disillusionment and of course the sadness of not being able to do our job and give festival-goers what they so badly want. But as in any major crisis, there is always a small glimmer of light that can bring unexpected strength and boost creativity. The soul of the MJF lies in reinventing its model over time while preserving the spirit so dear to our founder: music above all else, but also the warmth of the welcome and the art of sharing. So, with this creative energy, the entire MJF team spent months coming up with ideas, shaping new projects and accelerating a transformation process that was already in the pipeline. This passion, this self-sacrifice, which could even be described as tenacity, has always been guided by this simple but motivating leitmotiv that we cherish: nothing is impossible, you just have to believe. Mathieu Jaton, CEO Montreux Jazz Festival It is therefore with pride and emotion that we present to you, dear journalist friends, this 55th edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival. The journey has been full of challenges and this will certainly continue to be the case until the last day of the Festival. However, delivering the show fills us with joy, not only because it has been created in such special circumstances, but above all because it reveals more than ever who we are and what the Festival has been, is and will continue to be. ARLO PARKS THURSDAY 15 JULY At just 20 years of age, Britain’s most poetic female singer has just been voted ‘Best New Artist’ at the 2021 Brit Awards. Combining pop and soul with a hint of folk and trip hop, Arlo Parks’ hushed vocals are set against the backdrop of organic, comforting music. Of Nigerian, Chadian and French origin, openly bisexual, through her lyrics Arlo Parks reflects the quest for identity and hopes of a whole generation.

GERRY MULLIGAN DISCOGRAPHY GERRY MULLIGAN RECORDINGS, CONCERTS AND WHEREABOUTS by Gérard Dugelay, France and Kenneth Hallqvist, Sweden January 2011 Gerry Mulligan DISCOGRAPHY - Recordings, Concerts and Whereabouts by Gérard Dugelay & Kenneth Hallqvist - page No. 1 PREFACE BY GERARD DUGELAY I fell in love when I was younger I was a young jazz fan, when I discovered the music of Gerry Mulligan through a birthday gift from my father. This album was “Gerry Mulligan & Astor Piazzolla”. But it was through “Song for Strayhorn” (Carnegie Hall concert CTI album) I fell in love with the music of Gerry Mulligan. My impressions were: “How great this man is to be able to compose so nicely!, to improvise so marvellously! and to give us such feelings!” Step by step my interest for the music increased I bought regularly his albums and I became crazy from the Concert Jazz Band LPs. Then I appreciated the pianoless Quartets with Bob Brookmeyer (The Pleyel Concerts, which are easily available in France) and with Chet Baker. Just married with Danielle, I spent some days of our honey moon at Antwerp (Belgium) and I had the chance to see the Gerry Mulligan Orchestra in concert. After the concert my wife said: “During some songs I had lost you, you were with the music of Gerry Mulligan!!!” During these 30 years of travel in the music of Jeru, I bought many bootleg albums. One was very important, because it gave me a new direction in my passion: the discographical part. This was the album “Gerry Mulligan – Vol. 2, Live in Stockholm, May 1957”.
