2013 School Relays 2013 School Relays 25 OCTOBER 2013 KINGSPARK STADIUM DURBAN 2013 KZN ATHLETICS/ADIDAS SCHOOLS RELAYS MESSAGE “Every School in South Africa has a Zola Budd, the challenge is not much find- ing and identifying them, but what to do with such talent once unearthed”, Victor Vaz, KZN Athletics 2016/2020 Olympic Games development squad Coor- dinating Coach. KwaZulu-Natal Athletics, in partnership with the provincial Department of Sport and Recreation, has embarked on an ambitious plan to field athletes at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro, and bring back medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, a vision shared by Hon. Mrs. Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha, MEC for Arts, Culture and Sport & Recreation in the province The only way for KwaZulu-Natal Athletics contributing towards such national pride is through development of athletes at sub-youth, youth and junior levels through talent identification events such as Track & Field Leagues and Schools Relays. Our sub-youth Tack & Field league last Saturday attracted over 800 en- tries, the largest entry for over 15 years In addition to the sub-youth, youth and junior track and field leagues, KwaZulu- Natal Athletics decided to revive our most successful talent identification pro- gramme yet, the Schools Relay Leagues No non-profit organization however can embark on a programme of this magni- tude without strong pillars of support. The provincial federation is humbled by the generosity and anchorage constantly received from the provincial Depart- ment of Sport and Recreation It is also when we needed them most that Adidas stepped in to sponsor winning schools teams. We are confident they have embarked on a winning growth strategy by associating their brand with this fast growing organization, and should reap the rewards of their investment in the near future The camaraderie, social cohesion and team support in the past relay leagues has been phenomenal, you will also watch KwaZulu-Natal’s best in action today, we hope you enjoy the 2013 finals Sello Mokoena PRESIDENT: KwaZulu-Natal Athletics 2 PROGRAM FRIDAY 25 OCTOBER 2013 17H00 Team Registration 17H45 Welcome Address 18H00 Event 1: Girls 15 (sub-youth) 18H15 Event 2: Boys 15 (sub-youth) 18H30 Event 3: Girls 17 (youth) 18H45 Event 4: Boys 17 (youth) 19H00 Event 5: Girls Open 19H15 Event 6: Boys Open 19H45 Prize-Giving The relay event is a team event where a team consists of 8 athletes.
