OUR OPINION Who’s qualified to lead, and how can you tell? he field is set for this fall’s primary and general election. Just because T someone has qualified to seek local office doesn’t mean they are actually quali- fied to hold the seat they seek, however. How do you assess their abilities? A county commission seat, as we see it, is akin to a seat on the board of directors of a $150 million a year corporation, that sum being roughly our annual budget. In the end, commissioners are managing a corporation funded by your tax dollars. Their focus is rarely on social issues (though these are the ones that sometimes get all the attention).
