They did us really proud, winning the tournament, and being crowned the Champions. The GPCC Pointers team comprised Lochlan Williamson (Grade 8), who also captained the team, Cade Steinways (Grade 8), Chuma Mhonyane (Grade 10), Sean Pape (Grade 10) and Cameron Williamson (Grade 11). Their three other team mates go to Herzlia and the German School. Rocking Future Roadshow On Tuesday we had the ‘Rocking Future Roadshow’, where our Grade 12s were presented with some of the options for further education after 2017. This was done in a fun and interactive way, encouraging them to be intentional about planning for next year. Grade 12 Drama Also on Monday and Tuesday, the Grade 12 Drama pupils staged their plays. Both the plays were extremely entertaining and were sold out. On Monday the patrons enjoyed wonderful refreshments at a small extra cost. Well done to Mr Cross and his Grade 12 performers. Cape Town City Player On Thursday we had a visit in our Cultural period from Cape Town City Soccer Players, who ended their session with a Soccer Clinic at break for some of our players. Open Day Wednesday was our ‘Open Day’, where 220 pupils and 160 parents from our feeder schools descended on the school from 12h00 to 14h00. During this time we ran a programme that we hope will showcase our school to these prospective pupils. The Grade 7 visitors are mainly from our feeder schools. However, this year we missed the Sea Point Primary pupils who were away on a camp. These moments are good for our school as they make us reflect on what we are about and what makes us special compared to the other High Schools. Grade 11 Leadership and Entrepreneurship Camp The Grade 11s left on their Leadership and Entrepreneurship camp on Wednesday. I visited them close to Tulbagh on Thursday and was pleasantly surprised by the camp facilities and programme. When I arrived they were learning about ‘Branding’. Each team had decided on a product and was learning how to promote their brand. These ‘products’ formed a theme throughout the camp. Later in the afternoon there were seven stations, from Archery to Volley ball (with a difference) to an obstacle course, etc. The activity I enjoyed watching the most was a competition to fill a pipe with water. The pipe had numerous holes drilled in it and the water had to be collected by canoe, after filling a 2 litre bottle at a spot in the river. The rest of the team had to plug the holes in the pipe with their fingers. The team to fill their pipe first was the winner. 2016 School Magazine On Thursday we handed out the 2016 School Magazine This is a wonderful record of last year put together by Mrs Cross, Mrs Ashcroft and the Magazine Committee. I am sure you will enjoy reminiscing about the various activities and events last year as you see them show cased in this magazine. Clifton Life Savers Today in Assembly, I handed out Life Saving Certificates to Clifton Life Savers who were involved in rescues during the December holidays. Our pupils who were on duty and effected rescues were: Shiana Finkel (16 December Rescue) Christy Shrimpton (26 December Rescue) Georgie Goldie (26 December Rescue) Kira Gaylord (26 December Rescue) Well done to these girls who served the community in this way. Staff Matters Mr Cunliffe has been booked off ill for the rest of the Term. We will be bringing in a replacement teacher to take his classes as soon as possible. U-Turn Please support the organisation U-Turn, which helps people living on the street. By donating any second hand clothing, shoes or accessories. There is a drop off bin in Ms Parker’s Room (Room 14) or at the Clothing Shop. Shout Outs Well done to our Waterpolo teams (boys and girls) who returned from their Knysna tour on Sunday. The boys were undefeated, while the girls had some really hard matches. However, as usual the Camps Bay teams led the way when it comes to spirit and support. Thank you to the staff and parents who accompanied them. UCT / Stellenbosch University A Reminder that next week UCT and Stellenbosch University will be here on Wednesday 1 March 2017 from 17h30 to18h30 in the Hall. They will be speaking about NBT's and admissions etc. All parents are welcome, but especially parents of Grade 11, 12 and scholars are welcome. Discipline In Assembly today Mr Robbertze reminded the school to wear our Chino’s and not skinny pants and to have this correct by Monday, or with a letter outlining the plan from you. Also more clarity was given to the boys on what hair styles are acceptable and which are not. Now that we have new hair rules, we have to deal with all the new departures from the rule. Thank you for your help in this regard.
