8 December 9, 2009 entertainment Eagle X-Press PPAS Survival Guide: Money Management by Daniel Victoria Staff Writer Another important responsibility to take on once students have arrived to attend and live at Presbyterian Pan American School (PPAS) is money management. After settling with your roommate and learning to do your own laundry, a major part of being on your own is handling your money. Being a teenager isn´t easy and the situation can get a little complicated when money is placed in our hands and our parents are not around. It´s true that we are all capable of handling money; the point is using it the right way. Teenagers like to own new and not-so-very cheap things: cell phones, MP3s, cameras, designer clothes and those things that need our parents’ wallet. PPAS offers a system of accounts that every student can have just by putting money in it. If you have a great amount of green papers in your hands, don’t think about it twice and go and give it to Mrs. Carmen Gonzalez (Bank). She is in charge of putting it into your account and taking care of it. Doing this will help you manage your money in a better way and not lose it. It’s important to know how much money you have so you can skip problems while buying some snacks at Wal-Mart or paying for admission at the movies. Before getting something, you should think and then act. What does that mean? It means to do the math correctly and think if you really need that thing, then act; leave it or not. No matter how many times you have waited to get those Salvatore Ferragamo pair of shoes or how great the Hugo Boss fits you, if you know that you will not be able to pay for it or you can buy it but won’t have enough money left for your school supplies, do not buy it and try to find better options to your situation. You don’t want to be in that uncomfortable situation where you have to tell your parents you spent all the money they have sent you for a month. So, whenever you are tempted to get expensive things that you don’t really need, think carefully because there’s no reverse and there might not be any money coming from your parents for a long time. It may be difficult at first, but you´ll see that there are more important things than getting an awesome laptop like paying thetuition of a private school, buying the food you need to survive or even pay the public transportation that takes you from place to place. There´s a million ways to save money, the one who is in charge of practicing them is you. Resist your favorite store sale and save the hidden lonely coins under your bed, you´ll see that money problems, best known as debts, bankrupts and poorness won´t come to your life. Have respect for money and don´t let it drive you crazy. Be intelligent and make the right decisions. Twilight Saga: New Moon is a must see
