[email protected] Preschool Director OUR PARISH/SCHOOL Katrina Etzkorn [email protected] BRAD’S REFLECTION Elementary School 419-692-8561 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Preschool 419-692-9806 Today, we celebrate the 3rd Sunday of . This Sunday is given a very special name, Gaudete Jr. High/High School Principal Sunday. Gaudete, which is Latin for “rejoice,” is the theme. Why should we rejoice right now? Isn’t it Adam Lee too soon, since Day is still under two weeks away? The simple answer is NO! As Catholics, [email protected] we rejoice because our Lord has already come to this earth as our Savior and put into place His plan of Office 419-692-5371 salvation for all of us! He has defeated sin and death through the Paschal Mystery – His Passion, death, and Resurrection. We now await our Lord’s second coming.

We are called to rejoice in God in the 1st and 2nd readings and the responsorial psalm. In the first reading, the prophet Isaiah writes, “I rejoice heartily in the LORD, in my God is the joy of my soul.” While the Messiah had not yet come in the Old Testament, Isaiah mentions here that the true source of LITURGY READINGS all joy rests in God. The responsorial psalm response is “My soul rejoices in my God!” What is special December 20, 2020 about this psalm is that the actual words of the Magnificat, the Canticle of Mary, are proclaimed. These 2 Samuel 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16 words are spoken by the Blessed Virgin Mary after her cousin Elizabeth praises her both for her faith Romans 16:25-27 and for carrying the Son of God in her womb. God entrusted Mary with this major task and that, in Luke 1:26-38 itself, is something to rejoice in because without Mary’s fiat (let it be done), who knows whether or not the Messiah would have taken on human flesh? How fitting it is to have this connection to the Blessed Virgin Mary, since we just celebrated Mary being conceived without original sin in the womb of her own mother, St. Ann, on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception! Finally, the second reading from St. Paul to the Thessalonians begins with the exhortation, “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all BULLETIN DEADLINE – HOLIDAY circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ .” Paul here is writing to the SCHEDULE Thessalonians about the need to rejoice in Jesus Christ, because it is He who is the source of holiness Below is the bulletin deadline during the and who can bring fulfillment to their lives. That message is certainly relevant for us today: ALWAYS holidays. Due to our schedule for sending REJOICE IN THE LORD, JESUS CHRIST! in the bulletin, any articles & information The rose-colored candle that is lighted on the this weekend symbolizes joy. The ultimate submitted after these deadlines will not be source for all true and lasting joy for every one of us is found in Jesus Christ! Therefore, let us all in that week’s bulletin. Thank you for your rejoice in the Lord, thank Him for all the good things He provides us with, continue to grow closer in understanding. our relationship with Him, and prepare ourselves for the celebration of His birth at Christmas, for His coming into our lives each day, and finally, for His second coming at the end of time. “Rejoice! The Bulletin Dated Deadline Lord is near!” (Phil. 4:4-5). December 27 December 16 January 3 December 23 In Christ, Seminarian Brad McNeal THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 13, 2020
