The contract is valued at approximately £180 million and delivery of the vehicles is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2012. The announcement means that Force Protection Europe’s unique new light protected patrol vehicle can now lay claim to two important industry firsts. The Ocelot will be the first ever British designed and built protected patrol vehicle to include a fully composite pod to protect the occupants. This innovative module has been developed by drawing on technology from the motorsports industry. Ocelot will also be the first British military vehicle to accommodate the MoD’s new Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA) requirements. The objective of the GVA project is to create a single, standard digital electronic and electrical architecture for UK vehicles that will enable crew to manage power and handle data efficiently on the vehicle, and for the vehicle to be easily adapted when the need arises. The award is also a significant boost to Force Protection Europe’s supply chain which is 90 percent British by value. Designed, developed and built in the UK by survivability specialist Force Protection Europe and automotive specialist Ricardo plc, together with Team Ocelot partners Thales, QinetiQ, Formaplex, DSG and Sula, Ocelot is the most highly protected and agile vehicle of its size and weight that is available today.

  • The History of Firearm Magazines and Magazine Prohibitions
KOPEL 3/17/2015 11:41 AM THE HISTORY OF FIREARM MAGAZINES AND MAGAZINE PROHIBITIONS David B. Kopel* I. INTRODUCTION In recent years, the prohibition of firearms magazines has become an important topic of law and policy debate. This article details the history of magazines and of magazine prohibition. The article then applies the historical facts to the methodologies of leading cases that have looked to history to analyze the constitutionality of gun control laws. Because ten rounds is an oft-proposed figure for magazine bans, Part II of the article provides the story of such magazines from the sixteenth century onward. Although some people think that multi- shot guns did not appear until Samuel Colt invented the revolver in the 1830s, multi-shot guns predate Colonel Colt by over two centuries.1 Especially because the Supreme Court’s decision in District of Columbia v. Heller2 considers whether arms are “in common use” and are “typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes,”3 the article also pays attention to whether and when particular guns and their magazines achieved mass-market success in the United States. The first time a rifle with more than ten rounds of ammunition did so was in 1866,4 and the first time a * Adjunct Professor of Advanced Constitutional Law, Denver University, Sturm College of Law. Updated Apr 2009 The purpose of this presentation is to make you better aware of the numerous improvised weapons and ingenious hiding places that have been created and are in use by today’s criminals. The majority of the material used in this presentation comes from various law enforcement officer safety bulletins throughout the world. This presentation attempts to combine information from those bulletins into one easy to view presentation. In the interest of keeping the focus to the threat on hand, many of the circumstances surrounding the identification of these items has been removed. Knowledge is safety. • The Defence Needs of Azerbaijani Armed Forces for Peace, Security, and Stability
Open Military Studies 2020; 1: 79–87 Research Article Muhammad Ali Baig*,† The Defence Needs of Azerbaijani Armed Forces for Peace, Security, and Stability https://10.1515/openms-2020-0106 Received Oct 15, 2020; accepted Dec 11, 2020 Abstract: Azerbaijan is a peace-loving country and a cooperative member of the United Nations Organization. Being a sovereign member of the international community, it has all the rights and privileges entitled to a state. However, the claims of neighbouring Armenia driven by irredentism and revanchism over the contested region of Nagorno Karabakh have led to numerous conflicts between the two. Having the role of ensuring Azerbaijan’s political integrity and sovereign status, the role of its armed forces is demanding yet challenging. This article is geared towards analysing the operational capabilities of Azerbaijani Armed Forces with a special focus on equipment, doctrine, and command and control platforms. It also assesses and prescribes the necessary and immediate needs to deter the threats and to thwart any military conflict. It theorises the potential of Azerbaijan-Pakistan defence relations. Finally, it aspires to take a structural approach in explaining the state behaviour and the relevance of security in contemporary times. Keywords: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh, Armed Forces, Caspian Sea, Peace and Security 1 Introduction The military force of a state not only ensures security, but it guarantees a rapid yet credible response in case of an armed conflict. The size, structure, organization and equipment along with training play a vital role in such endeavours. Apart from these pivotal constituent elements, the doctrine by the virtue of which an armed force guides its actions serves as the basic framework to achieve policy objectives.
