Support Services

Terry Fox Run Terrance Stanley "Terry" Fox, (July 28, 1958 – June 28, 1981) was a Canadian humanitarian, athlete, and cancer treatment activist. He became famous for the Marathon of Hope: a cross- run to raise money for cancer research. He is considered one of Canada's greatest heroes and is celebrated internationally every September as people participate in the Terry Fox run. On Friday, September 17th, students and staff at Kingsview Village watched an assembly that prepared them to participate in this amazing initiative. Kingsview’s Terry Fox Run will take place on Friday, September 24th where students will run and walk to honour the memory of this Canadian hero. Students are being asked to contribute a loonie towards Terry’s dream of finding a cure for cancer. Thanks to Ms. McNeil for organizing this great day.

2 Snack Program

Would you like to volunteer? The Snack Program volunteers are very important and their services are greatly appreciated. These individuals donate their time and contribute their ideas to make the program the best it can be. If you would like to be a volunteer, please feel free to contact Tahira Aslam, Program Coordinator at 416-394-7950.

Healthy food is essential for student’s physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. Well-nourished students are able to concentrate better, retain and apply their knowledge and understanding of concepts more effectively and are more likely to show positive social behaviours. The Toronto District School Board recognizes the direct relationship between healthy nutrition and student achievement and support nutrition programs for students. The food served in the nutrition program is vegetarian, halal, and nut and peanut free so that the program is accessible to every child. The food reflects the values and tastes of our community and follows the Canada Food Guide. Trained staff and volunteers ensure that the food is prepared and delivered to the classrooms each day. Although we receive provincial and municipal grants, this money covers only a portion of the costs of the food, and we require parental contributions to make the program a success.

Heart of the Community

Library Corner

Kingsview Library is full of new and exciting books and resources for students, parents and teachers. We continue to offer Kindergarten drop in times for parents and their children, as well as our popular Parent Tutor program. Please check out the information board next to the library doors for more information. The Parent Section also continues to be a big part of our library. We have many Ministry of Education resources and Frontier College has very kindly donated new books for parents to come and sign out. In other news, the TDSB Elementary School Website is now even easier to use. Students and parents can access countless websites and databases which support and enhance the learning that is done in school. It is a great way to spend time together as a family. 3 New Walkway Makes It Easier and Safer To Get To School

The parking lot in front of the school can be a very busy place before and after school, making it hard for students to safely arrive and leave on time. In response to feedback from parents and students about these safety concerns, Kingsview approached Pastor Darren at the Kingsview Methodist Church who was happy to help out the community by allowing parents and staff to park in the church lot. A new walkway was built to allow safe and easy access to the school from the church parking area. By using the church parking lot and new walkway, we will all be doing our part to make the school a safer and more accessible place for our children.
