17 Hours of Kona on Zwift ⏲ 05 October 2020, 12:02 (BST) 17 HOURS OF KONA ON ZWIFT RIDE AND RUN WITH THE WORLD'S BEST TRIATHLETES TO CELEBRATE THE SPORT WITH 17 HOURS OF EVENTS Zwift, the global online training platform, is bringing the legends of Kona to Watopia for 17 hours of events to celebrate the sport of triathlon. On October 10th, cycling events will take place hourly with running events every other hour. Each event will be led by some of the biggest names in long distance triathlon. The pros will lead Zwift community members through social rides and runs throughout a 17 hour period starting at 7am Hawaiian time when the start cannon would have gone off on race day. 17 hours is the time cutoff given to all athletes competing in Kona and while the pros may never experience the agony of trying to finish just before the time cut off, many triathletes have raced in the dark with the sole aim of crossing the finish line in under 17 hours. From those that can complete the distance in 9 hours to those that race against the clock around the course to make the 17 hour cut-off, these events celebrate everyone who enters these gruelling challenges. Athletes confirmed: Terenzo Bozzone Javier Gomez James Cunnama David McNamee Andrew Starykowicz Meredith Kessler Lionel Sanders Joe Gambles Linsey Corbin Mark Allen Michellie Jones Sarah True Tim Reed Tim Berkel Craig Alexander Caroline Steffen Sarah Crowley Braden Currie Tim Don Josh Amberger Laura Siddall Nils Frommhold Ronnie Schildknecht Frederik Van Lierde Joe Skipper Jan Frodeno Lucy Charles-Barclay Sebastian Kienle Anne Haug Spend the events chatting with the pros in celebration of one of the biggest days on the triathlon calendar. Sponsors include the Kapalua Resort, GU, Gatorade, Zorrel, Kona Brewing Company, Hawaii Tourism Authority, T S Restaurants, and the XTERRA Alliance - Vitality, Footwear, Fitness, Flex, Wetsuits, and Cycling. WELCOME TO PARADISE - KAPALUA, MAUI! The Hawaiian word Kapalua can loosely be translated to mean “embracing the sea.” Fittingly enough, XTERRA is embracing Kapalua as the new home for the world’s most prestigious off-road triathlon. The 16th annual XTERRA World Championship is crossing the island after 15 glorious years in the Makena/Wailea area. Gone are the calm seas of Makena, the kiawe thorns and sharp lava rocks of Haleakala, and the unforgiving South Maui sun. It’s a whole new world at Kapalua, and the inaugural class of 2011 will usher in a fresh era of big surf, red dirt, and verdant green passages. The Kapalua Resort is on Maui’s northwest coast and as such its greener, cooler, and more tropical than the south shore. A capacity field of 650 athletes from 28 countries and 42 U.S. states will tackle this new challenge - having competed all season long for the right to dig their toes in the sand at the sports’ ultimate event. In addition to the new course, they’ll be treated to an area of Maui that is considered one of the most picturesque settings in the world with amazing beaches, renowned resorts, world-class restaurants and incredible golf courses.
