Case Study of Genoa (Italy)
Unità di progetto Piano Urbano della Mobilità e Trasporti email:[email protected] Integration and regulatory structures in public transport GENOA’S CASE STUDY PROPOSAL GENOA, MAY 2003 1) General information on the case study “Brief description of the case studies” - General statistics on the case study: Brief description of the metropolitan city of Genoa The city lies mainly on a 30 km long and narrow coastal plain extending through few narrow valleys (along rivers of torrential character) into the western steep slopes (reaching 1200 m high) of the Apennine Mountains. The transport system in the city of Genoa is strongly influenced by the complex orography of the region, a narrow territory between the mountain and the sea; therefore the traffic is forced to flow through limited routes across densely populated areas, with just two relevant traffic infrastructures connecting the eastern and the western areas of the city: the “sopraelevata” and the “pedemontana”, respectively built long the coastline and halfway up the hill. Area size and population: - The urban core area is only 28 Km2 and in this live 284.287 inhabitants - The agglomeration area has an extension of 239 Km2 and in this live 621.780 inhabitants - The total area has a population of 893.259 inhabitants with a total area of 1.836 Km2 • Public transport usage In the Council area is estimate a total mobility in a day of 1.800.000 trips, with a mobility index of 3 trips/inhabitants. In the follow scheme is represented the total flux of the mobility (public and private) in the total area which include the all agglomeration area. -

Diodato Biografia

The Apogee of the Hispano-Genoese Bond, 1576-1627
Sistema financiero. Galeras. Revuelta de 1575. ABSTRACT: The half century between 1576 and 1627 witnessed the most intense relations between the Republic of Genoa and Spain. This period, clearly demarcated at both its beginning and ending points, was ushered in by a brief war in Genoa accompanied by royal insolvency in Spain, and brought to a close by fighting in northern Italy and another quiebra in Spain. -
The History of Painting in Italy, Vol. V
The History Of Painting In Italy, Vol. V By Luigi Antonio Lanzi HISTORY OF PAINTING IN UPPER ITALY. BOOK III. BOLOGNESE SCHOOL. During the progress of the present work, it has been observed that the fame of the art, in common with that of letters and of arms, has been transferred from place to place; and that wherever it fixed its seat, its influence tended to the perfection of some branch of painting, which by preceding artists had been less studied, or less understood. Towards the close of the sixteenth century, indeed, there seemed not to be left in nature, any kind of beauty, in its outward forms or aspect, that had not been admired and represented by some great master; insomuch that the artist, however ambitious, was compelled, as an imitator of nature, to become, likewise, an imitator of the best masters; while the discovery of new styles depended upon a more or less skilful combination of the old. Thus the sole career that remained open for the display of human genius was that of imitation; as it appeared impossible to design figures more masterly than those of Bonarruoti or Da Vinci, to express them with more grace than Raffaello, with more animated colours than those of Titian, with more lively motions than those of Tintoretto, or to give them a richer drapery and ornaments than Paul Veronese; to present them to the eye at every degree of distance, and in perspective, with more art, more fulness, and more enchanting power than fell to the genius of Coreggio. Accordingly the path of imitation was at that time pursued by every school, though with very little method. -

How did these cities deal with migration movements? How did the face of the cities change? In this article, an approach for dealing with migration termed migration-led regeneration is portrayed as a variant of urban regeneration. This was explained with the fact that cities in a nation-state did not represent inde- pendent political units and thus could not be counted as significant players responsible for mi- gration and integration policies (which instead were dealt with at the national level and “occurred” globally).
