Buffalo Prep faculty and staff, board of directors, students, alumni, and other key stakeholders began with a thoughtful process that identified a number of strategic imperatives to query. After several months of interviews, focus groups, and discussions, a comprehensive plan emerged that addresses all angles of study, and recognized needs, goals, strategies, and resources required. Furthermore, strategic intents have been established and desired outcomes have been set as a guiding force for prioritization and measurement for success and for allocation of financial and human resources. Strategic Intents • To create a resource-rich nonprofit organization that offers the talented and dedicated youth selected as Buffalo Prep students the most advantageous foundation possible for higher education. • To surround Buffalo Prep’s students with a robust infrastructure of support by engaging and mobilizing its core constituencies, including families, alumni, and community members (e.g., board members, mentors, and other volunteers), in identified and specific capacities. • To continue to invest in and grow the capacity of its administrative and programmatic staff to maximize efficiency and productivity, minimize burnout, and encourage personal growth. This plan has been “staged” for multi-year implementation; many benchmarks for achievement will be identified through the coming processes, with the creation of committees and other means of engagement to support the organization. As we strive to operationalize this new strategic plan, go deeper with the programs and services for our students and capitalize on the opportunity provided by moving to a new home with state-of-the art technology, a vital element to our growth, as identified by both our faculty and students, is the need to transform our educational offerings to better engage, support, and empower our students for success, not just academically, but socially as well. While the rigor will remain the same, together we will reorganize our learning environment to offer a culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy. This shift in instruction requires that students maintain their own cultural integrity while still achieving the academic excellence that will prepare them for success in college preparatory high schools, higher education, and beyond. As Buffalo Prep implements this new plan, it is essential to recognize the extraordinary leadership that has shepherded the significant growth of its exceptional programs for more than a decade. Today, as Buffalo Prep is operated by a new leadership team, we will seek to build even deeper relationships with our students and their families and the community at large from the strong foundation that has been built. Dear Friends of Canisius College, I would like to present to you the members of the Class of 2019 that have submitted their resume to be included in our annual booklet of graduates. The Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration (HESAA) master’s program (formerly known as College Student Personnel Administration) at Canisius College is a full time cohort-based course of study that prepares graduates for careers in student affairs administration at both private and public institutions of higher education. The program is grounded in a theory-to-practice philosophy based in Jesuit pedagogy and student affairs professional competencies. Founded in 1996, the course of study consists of 36 credit hours taken over two academic years. The HESAA program combines the in-class education of graduate coursework, with the experiential learning of two required 225-hour internships to achieve its mission. Throughout their time in the program, students have been graduate assistants or worked professionally at Canisius and institutions across Western New York. Our students have had the unique opportunity to attend the NASPA national conference in March of 2018 and the ACPA annual convention in March of 2019 as part of their academic curriculum. These experiences only enhanced the student’s understanding of the importance of life-long professional development and the value of building networks and relationships. The HESAA students have progressed through the academic program together, taking all of their coursework as a cohesive group, thus developing strong team building skills and effective work groups. If you would like to learn more about our program, please visit canisius.edu/hesaa.

Most are in the Buffalo collection in the Grosvenor Room, and as they are frequently used for genealogy research, cannot be borrowed or removed from the room. This collection has largely been created from kind donations, and we do not have every year for every school. Many of the early Buffalo high schools also published student literary journals, and some include lists of students. These and other relevant publications, such as alumni directories, are listed in this guide by the school name under High Schools. Some of the college yearbooks and alumni directories are stored in our Closed Stacks. They can be retrieved in minutes and the staff is happy to do so. Elementary, grammar and middle schools? There are a few in our collection; see first section below. School #51 published a yearbook called the Broadcaster. Junior High Yearbooks are listed with the High School Yearbooks. Where ELSE can I find yearbooks? Try contacting the school, if it is still in existence. Many keep archival collections pertaining to their own history, often as part of the school’s library.
