Buffalo Prep faculty and staff, board of directors, students, alumni, and other key stakeholders began with a thoughtful process that identified a number of strategic imperatives to query. After several months of interviews, focus groups, and discussions, a comprehensive plan emerged that addresses all angles of study, and recognized needs, goals, strategies, and resources required. Furthermore, strategic intents have been established and desired outcomes have been set as a guiding force for prioritization and measurement for success and for allocation of financial and human resources. Strategic Intents • To create a resource-rich nonprofit organization that offers the talented and dedicated youth selected as Buffalo Prep students the most advantageous foundation possible for higher education. • To surround Buffalo Prep’s students with a robust infrastructure of support by engaging and mobilizing its core constituencies, including families, alumni, and community members (e.g., board members, mentors, and other volunteers), in identified and specific capacities. • To continue to invest in and grow the capacity of its administrative and programmatic staff to maximize efficiency and productivity, minimize burnout, and encourage personal growth. This plan has been “staged” for multi-year implementation; many benchmarks for achievement will be identified through the coming processes, with the creation of committees and other means of engagement to support the organization. As we strive to operationalize this new strategic plan, go deeper with the programs and services for our students and capitalize on the opportunity provided by moving to a new home with state-of-the art technology, a vital element to our growth, as identified by both our faculty and students, is the need to transform our educational offerings to better engage, support, and empower our students for success, not just academically, but socially as well. While the rigor will remain the same, together we will reorganize our learning environment to offer a culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy. This shift in instruction requires that students maintain their own cultural integrity while still achieving the academic excellence that will prepare them for success in college preparatory high schools, higher education, and beyond. As Buffalo Prep implements this new plan, it is essential to recognize the extraordinary leadership that has shepherded the significant growth of its exceptional programs for more than a decade. Today, as Buffalo Prep is operated by a new leadership team, we will seek to build even deeper relationships with our students and their families and the community at large from the strong foundation that has been built.
