Das Europa einer weltweiten Wertegemeinschaft, die auf Gerech- tigkeit, Diversität und Nachhaltigkeit setzt, steht heute neben einem Europa, das als Partei auf dem Feld globaler Rivalitäten und Konflikte unter den Bedingungen von Machtasymmetrien, ökonomischer Ungleichheit und religiöser Abgrenzungen agiert. Es ist ein Leichtes, diskursge- nealogische Entwicklungslinien von den europäischen Gründungsmythen bis heute so zu zie- hen, dass das eine oder das andere Gesicht Europas ausgeleuchtet wird. Die eigentliche Her- ausforderung besteht heute aber darin, vermittelnde Perspektiven zu entwerfen, Übergänge zwischen Großnarrativen sowie zwischen den Logiken und Notwendigkeiten sozialer Felder und Wissensformationen und über nationalstaatliche und kontinentale Grenzen hinweg zu erschaf- fen. Fest steht, dass dieser Aushandlungsvorgang ein internationaler sein muss, denn die Stärke Europas liegt nicht in der Anmaßung eines Deutungsmonopols über die Welt, sondern gerade darin, sich auf das Gegenüber und damit auf dialogisch ausgehandelte Weltentwürfe einzulas- sen. Dies gilt auch für die Selbstdeutungen Europas: Auch sie haben nur Bestand, wenn sie sich den Blicken von Außen aussetzen und die Probe des Interkulturellen bestehen. Wenn vom 9.-15. Abstract: As we all know that the Diaspora writers create their own place, not only in India but also every place where they are settled. They made their existent from the established of independence to till this date. Diaspora writers and any person, who are migrating in any region of the world and any field of the work, whether in the field of literary, technically, art, genre and etc. Indian Diaspora has been covered the big part of the world. They are diffuse in the world with a very large strength. To take an every Diaspora or notable diaspora person, this article will focus on the women diaspora writer and being a success they have taken a high place. It has begun with the Jewish context and most prominently excludes of Jews from Judea and the sentiment Greeks after the fall of Constantinople. Gradually the numbers of diaspora expand in several areas of the world. Approximately twenty million Indian immigrants have spread all over the globe. Fiction, through language and narration, has the power to bring the reader into alternate realities where they can explore the unknown and unfamiliar, culminating in a range of complex emotions and diverse ideas. As readers enter an imagined realm, the struggles, concerns, nuances, and social dynamics that unfold for the characters in the story, offer valuable insights on society and humanity. In the case of diasporic return writing, fiction can shed light on the lives of the exiled and displaced in a globalized world and their ambivalent relationship to the language and to places they have left behind. In this article, I examine how the literary act of remembering reflects the complex workings of identity and place in diasporic writer Shumona Sinha’s novel, Calcutta (2014). The article provides justification for the choice of literary fiction to study questions of language and belonging and is situated in current literature in Memory Studies as well as theorization of “fictions of memory” (Neumann, 2008). The article includes a detailed analysis of the novel using Neumann’s concept and concludes by describing the significance of this inquiry to questions related to writing, memory, and place in a globalized world. Lee, Mark D. “Crossing Boundaries External & Internal: The Writing Imaginary of Shumona Sinha.” Crossings in Women’s Writing in French in the Twenty-First Century, Crossways Journal, No3.1 (2019) Crossing Boundaries External & Internal: The Writing Imaginary of Shumona Sinha Mark D. Lee Mount Allison University Canada Shumona Sinha is part of the current generation of authors writing – among many things – the immigrant experience in France. Topical and at times acutely contentious, the question of immigration and immigrants, of who is a foreigner, has been repeatedly politicized in France as elsewhere in Europe, eliciting reaction ranging from hospitality to hostility. Through a close reading of two of Sinha’s recent works this article will explore the limits of gender, space, person and imagination encountered by transnational narrators – border crossers by definition – who find themselves directly or indirectly involved in transgressive acts of violence. The first part of this study will frame a traumatic scene of public violence between immigrants at the center of Sinha’s 2011 novel, Assommons les pauvres!. In exploring the boundaries this violent act crosses, we see the novel’s narrator seeking but ultimately failing to fully grasp the object and the source of her wrath, suspecting it lies across a different border. The second part of the study traces out the echo from this exterior assault to a similar but different portrayal of ‘intimate’ violence in Sinha’s subsequent novel, Calcutta (2014). I propose that, in order to come to terms with an inordinately intense and unresolved attack against an Other posited as Foreigner committed in the public space of Assommons les pauvres!, we must leave the external and, guided by Sinha’s narrator and Freud’s notion of the uncanny – the unheimlich in German, the inquiétante étrangeté in French – we should turn inwards, to cross into the intimate space of ‘home’ found in Calcutta.
