It contributes to the quality of life in our country while facilitating greater flexibility, prosperity and better living conditions. Whether by car, bus, train or bicycle: people legitimately have high expectations of having access to a functioning mobility system in the city and in the countryside. Our task is therefore to continually adapt, develop and modernise this system across the board. Modern mobility involves emission-free fuels and efficient drive systems. The integration of renewable energy in the transport sector is already visible today – the number of electric passenger cars increased by 76 per cent (battery) and 44 per cent (plug-in hybrids) in 2019. And also for hydrogen and fuel cell technology, the trend in new purchases and registrations is clearly on the up. 3 BMVI invests in infrastructure for alternative fuels The expansion of battery and fuel cell infrastructure is an essential prerequisite for the further ramp-up of these technologies. At the end of 2019, Germany boasted 82 hydrogen filling stations and around 24,000 electric charging points (normal and fast), represent- ing around 33 and 50 per cent more alternative infrastructure than in the previous year, respectively. The BMVI support programmes play a central role in this regard. It is also clear that we now need to have a correspondingly greater choice of such vehicles – preferably from our German manufacturers. In the area of charging infrastructure, almost 15,000 normal and 4,000 fast charging points are currently under construction or have already been installed across Germany thanks to investments by the BMVI. At the turn of the year 2019/2020, we took the next step for electric charging: the BMVI commissioned NOW to establish the new German Centre for Charging Infrastructure (Nationale Leitstelle Ladeinfrastruktur). The core tasks of the national centre are the assessment of demand, the coordinated development of a nationwide fast charging network and the coordination of federal and state activi- ties. The centre will also support municipalities in planning and implementing charging infrastructure development. The first goal is to establish 1,000 fast-charging locations – so-called hubs – at which a large number of charging points will be provided and which can be expanded in a modular manner, and therefore swiftly. The establishment of modern mobility begins in the regions Modern mobility evolves in close proximity to the people. For this reason, it is essential to ensure we have the federal states and especially the local municipalities involved and at our side. We are successfully doing this. One example is the resounding success of the hydrogen regions. “Every region can become a hydrogen region” was the motto of our appeal. With the HyLand concept, municipalities are provided with tailored services for the launch or further development of hydrogen technology on location: Nine HyStart- ers will be supported for two years in building a network of stakeholders and develop- ing an initial concept. 13 HyExperts will each receive 300,000 euros to detail projects or conduct a study – enabling them to get started in practical terms. And finally, three HyPerformers will each receive 20 million euros to acquire the necessary technology and start deploying hydrogen and fuel cell products on a large scale. The regional applicants’ own investment commitments amount to as much as 270 million euros. A total of almost 200 regions or municipalities from all over Germany have applied across the three cat- egories. This shows that the interest is clearly there. We therefore have a responsibility to continue to provide the regions with good offers. Hydrogen is needed to increasingly move away from fossil fuels in all areas of energy consumption – including transport. Measures to reduce and contain the rise in CO2 have never been more pressing. In the interests of achieving sustainable growth and a healthy environment, industry and the public are focusing on the use and application of innovative, alternative and climate- neutral technologies. NOW GmbH is making a major contribution towards achieving Germany’s climate targets by coordinating the federal government’s technology programmes. It supports and implements the development and use of alternative energy supply and alternative drive systems in the transport sector within the framework of programmes relating to battery electric mobility, the mobility and fuels strategy, charging infrastructure for electric mobility and the National Innovation Programme Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology. 5 RENDERING MOBILITY AND LOGISTICS CLIMATE-NEUTRAL CONSTITUTES AN OVERARCHING BUSINESS, SOCIAL AND POLITICAL CHALLENGE FOR THIS DECADE. FOREWORD Dear Cyclists, Discovering Europe on a bicycle – the Rhine Cycle Route makes it possible. It runs from the Alps to a North Sea beach and on its way links Switzerland, France, Germany and the Netherlands. This guide will point the way. Within the framework of the EU-funded “Demarrage” project, the Rhine Cycle Route has been trans- formed into a top tourism product. For the first time, the whole course has been signposted from the source to the mouth. Simply follow the EuroVelo15 symbol. The Rhine Cycle Route is also the first long distance cycle path to be certified in accordance with a new European standard. Testers belonging to the German ADFC cyclists organisation and the European Cyclists Federation have examined the whole course and evaluated it in accordance with a variety of criteria. This guide is another result of the European cooperation along the Rhine Cycle Route. We have broken up the 1233-kilometre course up into 13 sections and put together cycle-friendly accom- modation, bike stations, tourist information and sightseeing attractions – the basic package for an unforgettable cycle touring holiday.

    Rail Transport Masterplan Rail Transport Masterplan Foreword by the Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure Dear friends of the railways, During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen how important and reliable the railways are. At no time have we been without a stable range of basic passenger services and an uninterrupted supply of goods in the freight transport sector. The contribution made by the rail freight sector, in particular, during the crisis situation clearly illustrates that its capabilities are indispensable for the secure supply of goods to the population. Never in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany has rail transport been as important as it is today. It is, in the best sense of the phrase, “systemically relevant”. We will do our utmost to ensure that the rail sector comes through the pandemic unscathed and heads into the future in a strengthened condition. The Federal Government’s economic stimulus package currently earmarks more than 7.6 billion euros for rail transport alone, of which 5 billion euros is designed to shore up the state-owned DB AG. It is obvious that the Federal Government, as the owner, cannot leave its undertaking in the lurch. However, it also obvious Andreas Scheuer, Member of the German Bundestag that we will take care to ensure that this increase in equity Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is not allowed to result in a distortion of competition on the railways. Moreover, we will join forces with the federal states to establish a bailout for local public transport and provide a further 2.5 billion euros for this purpose.

    MuseenMuseenim Kreis Groß-Gerau Museenim Kreis Groß-Gerau VORWORT Die Museumslandschaft im Kreis Groß-Gerau ist reichhaltig und vielfältig. Darauf möchten wir mit dieser neuen Broschüre aufmerksam machen. Die Bandbreite reicht vom kleinen, aber feinen Heimatmuseum über größere Stadtmuseen und das Büchnerhaus in Goddelau, das Umweltbildungszentrum Schatzinsel Kühkopf und den Lehrpfad KZ-Außenlager in Walldorf bis hin zum Psychiatrie-Museum des Riedstädter Philippshospitals, zum Stadt- und Industriemuseum Rüsselsheim, zur ehemaligen Synagoge Erfelden oder zu der Historischen Schiffsmühle in Ginsheim. Ziel dieses Museumsführers ist es, historische sowie Kunst-Schätze stärker ins Blickfeld zu rücken, genauso wie Naturgegebenheiten und prägende Ereignisse vergangener Jahrhunderte. Wer die öffentlichen Häuser und Stätten besucht – ob allein oder mit der ganzen Familie –, bekommt nicht nur die Gelegenheit, sich zu informieren und zu bilden. Er kann sich in den „Musentempeln“ auch dessen bewusstwerden, welchen Weg die Menschen hier im Kreis Groß-Gerau beschritten haben – und was dies für die heutige Zeit und Realität bedeutet. Museen sind also nichts Verstaubtes, Antiquiertes, sondern wichtiger Bestandteil unserer Gesellschaft. Mein besonderer Dank gilt allen, die zum Gelingen dieser ansprechenden Broschüre beigetragen haben – insbesondere den Mitarbeitenden in den Museen, dem Kooperationspartner Sparkassen-Stiftung Groß-Gerau und der Grafikerin Elke Müller. Und er gilt natürlich all jenen, die sich – ob haupt- oder ehrenamtlich – für den Fortbestand, die Pflege und stete Modernisierung der Einrichtungen einsetzen.
