INTRODUCTION DEFINATION AND MEANING Inventory is a list of goods and materials, or those goods and materials themselves, held available in stock by a business. Inventory are held in order to manage and hide from the customer the fact that manufacture/supply delay is longer than delivery delay, and also to ease the effect of imperfections in the manufacturing process that lower production efficiencies if production capacity stands idle for lack of materials. The reasons for keeping stock All these stock reasons can apply to any owner or product stage. Buffer stock is held in individual workstations against the possibility that the upstream workstation may be a little delayed in providing the next item for processing. Whilst some processes carry very large buffer stocks, Toyota moved to one (or a few items) and has now moved to eliminate this stock type. Safety stock is held against process or machine failure in the hope/belief that the failure can be repaired before the stock runs out. This type of stock can be eliminated by programmes like Total Productive Maintenance Overproduction is held because the forecast and the actual sales did not match. -

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, We are very thankful for the possibility to introduce our viewpoints in the dialogue you have invited us to participate in. As a German Issuer, we are predominantly speaking for the German market with its highly developed and specific standards regarding share issuance request proposals. From our market perception, there is no particular need to reduce the applicable limit for general share issuances without preemptive rights from 20 percent to 10 percent in Germany, as there are no cases known to us where issuers have abused their authorizations to the disadvantage of their shareholders. As a general rule, issuers in Germany rely on § 186 para. 3 sentence 4 of the German Stock Corporation Act (AktG), where there is a clear legal limit of 10 percent for cash capital increases without preemptive rights. Should the existing, well balanced system be additionally burdened by different rules in the European Policy, there will be mismatches between the 10 percent proposed by ISS and the 10 percent as stated in the law, not least due to the fact that most issuers have various authorizations for different types of Authorized Capital and Conditional Capital (in Germany primarily used for the issuance of convertible and warrant bonds) in place that customarily are not proposed in one AGM but in different AGMs with different authorization periods applicable as a result. One example may highlight this: in 2015 we exchanged bond with warrant units issued in 2012 under an authorization of 2010 in order to substitute warrants relating to Siemens and Osram shares with new warrants exclusively relating to Siemens shares under an authorization of 2015. -

Chapter 1 FROM ZÜNFTE TO NAZISM German Handwerk to 1939 Two central ideas will concern us throughout the course of this study. Th e fi rst is the ability of German artisans, Handwerker, to adapt to the process of indus- trialization. Th e second is how the organizational structure—its coherency, legal authority, and economic infl uence—aff ected that adaptation and how it shaped handwerk as a social group, a Stand, with a distinct identity. Th e outcome of these developments was to have enormous implications for the political and so- cial stability of Germany—and of Europe—in the twentieth century. Handwerk in the Kaiserreich and World War I By the start of the nineteenth century the golden age of German handwerk had long faded into memory and myth. Handwerk’s great late medieval fl owering, with its powerful guilds (Zünfte),1 was followed, with great variations by region and trade, by a long period of uneven decline so that by 1800 average income was only about one-third of what it had been three hundred years earlier, and many handwerker numbered among the poorest in the population.2 Th is economic decline was refl ected in the state of the guilds. Over the course of the nineteenth century these by then ossifi ed institutions were gradually stripped of their orga- nizational monopoly and regulatory authority, culminating with the passage of general freedom of trade (Gewerbefreiheit) in the North German Confederation in 1869, extended to the full Reich in 1871. Sir William Siemens LIFELINES William Siemens was a member of the founding generation of the Siemens company. Born in Germany in , he emigrated to England, where he headed the Siemens offi ce in London, and also worked as an independent engineer and entrepreneur. His work embraced fi elds as diverse as the global telegraph system and innovations in metallurgy; his name is associated with the Siemens-Martin process, which remained the world’s most important steel production process for a century. William Siemens’ achievements earned him esteem as a member of the British scientifi c community, and a great many honors and accolades. 8 The NSDAP and the German Working Class, 1925-1933 PETER D. STACHURA Throughout the pre-1933 period, the National Socialist party (NSDAP) projected an image of being a broadly-based Volksbewegung whose aim was to restore the fortunes of all Germans regardless of status or class. The party's ideological and propagandistic appeal was modelled to attract to the swastika as many sections of \~eimar society as possible. This approach made sense, after all, if the NSDAP were to exoand its electoral constituency to the point where it could establish a popular mandate for power. Following the unsuccessful 11unich putsch in 1923, Hitler renounced violent, revolutionary tactics in favor of a long-term parliamentary strategy that would allow him to assume governmental responsibility within the letter of the law. In the end, of course, the NSDAP did win power legally even if it constantly violated the spirit of the law. While failing to attain an overall majority in Reichstag elections in July and November 1932, the NSDAP, despite showing incipient signs of having passed its peak, was ultimately brought into the government, thanks to the last-minute interventionist power politics of industrial and agrarian elitist groups representing propertied, nationalist, and Protestant Germany.l Contrary to Joseph Goebbels's assertion in early 1933 that the !1achtergreifung signified "a revolution of a workers' movement,"2 empirical historical inquiry has established that by 1933 the NSDAP drew its electoral support overwhelmingly from the small town and rural Protestant Mittelstand, comprising men and women in roughly equal numbers, in northern, central, and eastern Germany.3 Although by 1930-31 the lower 11ittelstand, particularly of the "old" or traditional type, predominated among the party's voters and members, the upper Hittelstand were beginning to flock into the ranks in ever-increasing numbers in 1932,4 thus making the NSDAP more of a catch-all movement of middle-class protest, a movement of bourgeois integration. -

Referring to the company's history of achieving success through well engineered refinements of other people's inventions, one Fortune analyst noted that "second is best" might well serve as Siemens' motto. But opportunism is not the only interesting facet of Siemens' history, which is also a story of a long family tradition and intimate involvement with some of the most important events of the 19th and 20th centuries. Siemens & Halske was founded in Berlin in 1847 by Werner Siemens and J. G. Halske to manufacture and install telegraphic systems. Siemens, a former artillery officer in the Prussian army and an engineer who already owned a profitable patent for electroplating, was the driving force behind the company and remained so for the rest of his life. The company received its first major commission in 1848, when it contracted to build a telegraph link between Berlin and Frankfurt. Construction of telegraph systems boomed in the mid 19th century, and Siemens & Halske was well equipped to take advantage of the situation. In 1853, it received a commission to build an extensive telegraph system in Russia. Upon its completion, the company opened an office in St. Petersburg under the direction of Werner Siemens' brother Carl Siemens. In 1857 Siemens & Halske helped develop the first successful deep sea telegraphic cable. -
