Journal of Social Justice, Vol. 9, 2019 (© 2019) ISSN: 2164-7100 Looking Left at Antisemitism Spencer Sunshine* The question of antisemitism inside of the Left—referred to as “left antisemitism”—is a stubborn and persistent problem. And while the Right exaggerates both its depth and scope, the Left has repeatedly refused to face the issue. It is entangled in scandals about antisemitism at an increasing rate. On the Western Left, some antisemitism manifests in the form of conspiracy theories, but there is also a hegemonic refusal to acknowledge antisemitism’s existence and presence. This, in turn, is part of a larger refusal to deal with Jewish issues in general, or to engage with the Jewish community as a real entity. Debates around left antisemitism have risen in tandem with the spread of anti-Zionism inside of the Left, especially since the Second Intifada. Anti-Zionism is not, by itself, antisemitism. One can call for the Right of Return, as well as dissolving Israel as a Jewish state, without being antisemitic. But there is a Venn diagram between anti- Zionism and antisemitism, and the overlap is both significant and has many shades of grey to it. One of the main reasons the Left can’t acknowledge problems with antisemitism is that Jews persistently trouble categories, and the Left would have to rethink many things—including how it approaches anti- imperialism, nationalism of the oppressed, anti-Zionism, identity politics, populism, conspiracy theories, and critiques of finance capital—if it was to truly struggle with the question. The Left understands that white supremacy isn’t just the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazis, but that it is part of the fabric of society, and there is no shortcut to unstitching it.

Testimony of Lecia Brooks Chief of Staff, Southern Poverty Law Center before the Subcommittee on National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy Committee on Financial Services United States House of Representatives Dollars against Democracy: Domestic Terrorist Financing in the Aftermath of Insurrection February 25, 2021 My name is Lecia Brooks. I am chief of staff of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Now in our 50th year, the SPLC is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. SPLC lawyers have worked to shut down some of the nation’s most violent white supremacist groups by winning crushing, multimillion-dollar jury verdicts on behalf of their victims. We have helped dismantle vestiges of Jim Crow, reformed juvenile justice practices, shattered barriers to equality for women, children, the LGBTQ+ community, and the disabled, and worked to protect low-wage immigrant workers from exploitation. The SPLC began tracking white supremacist activity in the 1980s, during a resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan and other organized extremist hate groups. Today, the SPLC is the premier U.S. nonprofit organization monitoring the activities of domestic hate groups and other extremists. In the early 1990s, the SPLC launched its pioneering Teaching Tolerance program to provide educators with free, anti-bias classroom resources, such as classroom documentaries and lesson plans. Now renamed Learning For Justice, our program reaches millions of schoolchildren with award-winning curricula and other materials that promote understanding of our nation’s history and respect for others, helping educators create inclusive, equitable school environments.

COMEDY CENTRAL Records Releases Ryan Stout's "Touche" Debut Digital Album on December 6 NEW YORK, Nov. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ryan Stout tends to say the wrong thing – in exactly the right way. Or, maybe, it's the right thing in the wrong way! In any case, COMEDY CENTRAL Records releases Ryan Stout's debut digital album, "Touche" on Tuesday, December 6. Recorded live at Acme Comedy Company in Minneapolis, MN, "Touche" is packed with complex twists, unexpected turns, and sharp punch lines. Exploring morally repugnant subject matter with smart and sterile objectivity, Stout's delightful insincerity and self-righteousness make this digital album both witty and wicked. To assure his brand of "offensive humor" stays on an intellectual level, he generally keeps profanity out of his act, even while touching on such subjects as sexual assault and abortion in his own clever manner. Ryan Stout has toured the globe with his extremely well-crafted stand-up for more than ten years. When he was only 22 years old, he won first place in the Boston International Comedy Festival's Stand-up Comedy Competition. Many opportunities soon followed, including performances at "The Comedy Festival" in Las Vegas, at HBO's "U.S. Comedy Arts Festival" in Aspen, and at the prestigious "Just for Laughs" International Comedy Festival in Montreal. In the world of television, Stout has hosted various series and specials for MTV, including the iconic "MTV's Spring Break." He has appeared as a regular guest on "Chelsea Lately," made his late-night stand-up debut on "Conan,"

Free from their parents’ rules, their idyllic summer quickly becomes a test of friendship as each boy learns to appreciate the fact that family - whether it is the one you’re born into or the one you create – is something you can't run away from. ABOUT THE PRODUCTION The Kings of Summer began in the imagination of writer Chris Galletta, who penned his script during his off hours while he was working in the music department of “The Late Show with David Letterman.” After some false starts in screenwriting, Galletta shunned his impulse to write a high-concept tentpole feature and craft something more character-driven and personal.

COMEDY CENTRAL Records(R) to Release Doug Benson's 'Unbalanced Load' CD on Tuesday, August 4 NEW YORK, July 27 -- Take a load off and catch Doug Benson's new CD "Unbalanced Load" released on COMEDY CENTRAL Records August 4. "Unbalanced Load" was recorded at the Punchline in San Francisco on April 20th, 2009. Why that date? Not because it's Hitler's birthday, but because 4/20 has been adopted as a stoner holiday and Benson is one of the biggest pot comics around. He co-wrote the Off-Broadway show (and COMEDY CENTRAL Records release) "The Marijuana-Logues" and starred in the documentary "Super High Me," in which he smoked pot continuously for 30 days. Benson is best known for his regular appearances on VH1's "Best Week Ever" and was a finalist on NBC's "Last Comic Standing." His television appearances also include a "COMEDY CENTRAL Presents" half-hour special in January 2009 and appearances on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "The Sarah Silverman Program," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Friends." In addition to his credits as creator/writer/star of "The Marijuana-Logues," a show that's been a hit in clubs and theatres from Los Angeles to New York, drawing a bongload of rave reviews and his COMEDY CENTRAL CD, he also authored a book, The Marijuana- Logues: Everything About Pot That We Could Remember. In 2006, High Times Magazine named him Stoner of the Year. Doug also expresses his love of movies on his "I Love Movies" podcasts (available on iTunes).
