Free from their parents’ rules, their idyllic summer quickly becomes a test of friendship as each boy learns to appreciate the fact that family - whether it is the one you’re born into or the one you create – is something you can't run away from. ABOUT THE PRODUCTION The Kings of Summer began in the imagination of writer Chris Galletta, who penned his script during his off hours while he was working in the music department of “The Late Show with David Letterman.” After some false starts in screenwriting, Galletta shunned his impulse to write a high-concept tentpole feature and craft something more character-driven and personal. -

First and foremost, my committee members Thomas Schatz and Alisa Perren, who with incisive notes have molded my disparate web of ideas into a legible, linear thesis. My fellow graduate students, who have kept me sane during the COVID-19 pandemic with virtual happy hours and (socially distant) meetups in the park serving as brief respites from the most trying of academic years. In addition, I am grateful to the University of Texas at Austin and the department of Radio-Television-Film in the Moody College of Communications for all of the resources and opportunities they have provided to me. Finally, my parents, who have enough pride on my behalf to trump my doubts. Here’s hoping they don’t find these chapters too mind-numbingly dull. Onward and upward! iv Abstract Artful Scares: A24 and the Elevated Horror Cycle Alexander Joseph Brannan, M.A. The University of Texas at Austin, 2021 Supervisor: Thomas Schatz One notable cycle of production in horror cinema in the 2010s was so-called “elevated horror.” The independent company A24 has contributed heavily to this cycle. -

At the center of the movie is a marriage that has gone on for a long time and become frayed. Surrounding that union are young people falling in love, a brand-new marriage and the surprise of mid-life romance. The film is also about the connection that sometimes happens between a human being and a pet – the love, friendship and solace that can pass between species. Anyone who’s ever had a dog knows they live in the moment. That fact of their behavior can have a revivifying effect on the people around them. While humans worry about the future and mull over the past, dogs bring us back to the present with the uncomplicated joy they take in the here and now – getting outside with us for a walk, having their meal, being stroked. -

Saw the Light
Presents SAW THE LIGHT Written and Directed by Marc Abraham Based on the book “Hank Williams: The Biography” By Colin Escott with George Merritt and William Macewen Official Selection Toronto International Film Festival 2015 I SAW THE LIGHT tells the story of Hank Williams, the iconic, influential country singer and songwriter of the 1940’s and early 50’s whose meteoric rise and fall, including his death at age 29, has become part of American folklore. Writer-director Marc Abraham has created a compelling, historically accurate narrative of Hank’s career that examines his tormented creative genius and the turbulent domestic life that inspired him to write some of his best-known songs. By literally going back in time, you see Hank as he was, living his life on his terms, battling his demons and ultimately creating music for the ages. "I am so proud of this film of my granddaddy's life. Director Marc Abraham, lead actor Tom Hiddleston and everyone involved with the film brought an incredible passion to their work, and a commitment to show Hank in all of his grit and glory and genius…" -Holly Williams, granddaughter of Hank Williams 123 min Distribution Publicity Bonne Smith Star PR 1352 Dundas St. West Tel: 416-488-4436 Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M6J 1Y2 Fax: 416-488-8438 Tel: 416-516-9775 Fax: 416-516-0651 E-mail: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected] www.mongrelmedia.com @MongrelMedia MongrelMedia 1 CAST Hank Williams Tom Hiddleston Audrey Williams Elizabeth Olsen Fred Rose Bradley Whitford Lillie Williams Cherry Jones Billie Jean Jones Maddie Hasson Bobbi Jett Wrenn Schmidt CREW WRITTEN & DIRECTED BY Marc Abraham BASED ON THE BOOK “Hank Williams: The Biography” By Colin Escott with George Merritt and William Macewen EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS Patty Long, Jason Cloth, John Raymonds, James Packer PRODUCERS Brett Ratner, p.g.a., Aaron L. -

In this living collage of rare archival material, filmed portraits, and voices lifted from early 20th Century diary entries, a struggle erupts between adults and adolescents to define a new idea of youth. Synopsis Before the ‘Teenager’ was invented, there was no second stage of life. You were either a child or you went to work as an adult. At the turn of the century, child labor was ending, 'adolescence' was emerging, and a struggle erupted between adults and youth. Would the young be controlled and regimented, or could they be free? Inspired by punk author Jon Savage's book, Teenage gives voice to young people from the first half of the 20th century in America, England, and Germany—from party-crazed Flappers and hip Swing Kids to zealous Nazi Youth and frenzied Sub-Debs. By the end of World War II, they were all 'Teenagers': a new idea of youth. Four young voices (Jena Malone, Ben Whishaw, Julia Hummer, Jessie Usher) bring to life rare archival material and filmed portraits of emblematic teenagers from history—Brenda Dean Paul, a self-destructive Bright Young Thing; Melita Maschmann, an idealistic Hitler Youth; Tommie Scheel, a rebellious German Swing Kid; and Warren Wall, a black Boy Scout. -

Reminder List of Productions Eligible for Awards
REMINDER LIST OF PRODUCTIONS ELIGIBLE FOR AWARDS All films that have qualified for consideration for 2011 Academy Awards in the non-specialized categories are listed alphabetically by title. Voters making selections in their own branch categories list only film titles on their ballots, not the individuals responsible for the various achievements. For that reason, as well as for reasons of printing time and convenience of using this pamphlet, full credit rosters are not provided for the listed films. An exception to the above exists in the four Acting categories, where simply listing titles would not provide enough voting information. Actors Branch members filling out their Nominations ballots must indicate both titles and the particular performers they are voting for. For that reason, the Reminder List provides a listing of up to fifty cast members for each film. Pictures eligible in the Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature and Foreign Language Film categories are also eligible in the Best Picture category, provided they meet the qualifications for the category. Foreign Language films are eligible for awards in other categories provided they meet the requirements of Awards Rules Two and Three. Notes: A ABDUCTION Taylor Lautner. Lily Collins. Alfred Molina.
