CHICAGO — Three suburban Chicago members of Metra’s board of directors have taken the unusual move of penning a newspaper opinion- editorial expressing their concern about the commuter railroad's “dire” capital funding crisis and warning of potential service cuts. “Without a large infusion of funding from the state of Illinois, we likely will have to shrink the Metra system to match our shrinking resources. If that happens, it will impact our communities and scores of others all across northeast Illinois,” said the op-ed, published Friday in the suburban Daily Herald. The three directors include Rodney Craig, mayor of Hanover Park; Timothy Baldermann, mayor of New Lenox, and Don De Graff, mayor of South Holland. Their op-ed is part of a campaign by Metra to urge passengers and the public to press legislators in Illinois' capital city, Springfield, to approve a state infrastructure bond program. The mayors cited a recent white paper commissioned by Metra and prepared by the Rail Transportation and Engineering Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This paper says the failure to spend $1 in preventive maintenance now can cost $4 in deferred maintenance later. -

Frost, M.D., of Buffalo, have, as opportunity offered, interested themselves irt the Frost Genealogy. The former made personal in vestigation of the early English and American records, while the iatter collected data from American sources. Neither knew of the work or existence of the other, until within a very recent period, when each had practically completed his manuscript. Upon comparing notes, it was deemed advisable to combine them in one publication, which has been done. For any peculiarities of arrange ment, or undue repetition of statement, it is hoped that the original matter presented, particularly in Part I, will more than compensate. To those who have generously furnished many necessary records, we acknowledge our great obligation, and trust that they will find the subject-matter of sufficient interest to partially repay them for their labor. He Auction Resources studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and graduated from Harvard University as an engineer, also completing a special architecture course with William L. Ware. After his graduation in 1880, he made the Grand Special & Digital Tour of Europe, then began his architectural career at Peabody and Stearns, a prominent Boston firm. Collections Databases A-Z In 1881, Cobb won a commission for a new clubhouse for the Union Club in Chicago. His brother, already Services established in Chicago and an officer of the exclusive Union Club, may have helped young Cobb get the commission.
