1 Messages of Introduction From Institute Chairman, Thomas Gunn

As the new Chairman of the Institute, I welcome you to the 13th season of the Innsbrook Institute! We are pleased you have chosen to join us for “Carnevale of Music". This year’s theme takes us on a worldwide journey with musical stops in France, Germany, Austria, and the U.S.A. Each stop will be a feast for the senses as our renowned group of professional musicians seeks to thrill us once again with their artistry and passion for performance. Thanks to the fine leadership of Artistic Director, David Halen, and Education Director, Jonathan Swartz, the Academy welcomes 38 string and piano students, 4 Emerging Artists and 7 Professional Flute Seminar students. These students exhibit a high level of ability and expertise, and we are pleased they have chosen to attend the Institute.

Over the past six months the Institute has made some progressive changes: Marilyn Humiston was appointed the new Executive Director, and Linda Buschman the new Assistant Executive Director. They bring strong backgrounds in music education, business leadership and nonprofit management to the Institute, and we are excited about the new path we are on. The board has also undergone some changes by voting to double its size over the next few years, strategically developing a new committee structure and recommiting itself to continuing to make the Institute a premier event in the Midwest.

Each year we strive to improve our musical offerings and provide you with the most beautiful music, in this most beautiful of settings. Without the support of our staff, volunteers, patrons, friends and sponsors, the Academy and Festival would not be possible. We also ask you to join us in a “standing ovation” for outgoing Board Chairman Ed Boyce for his magnificent vision and leadership for the past 13 years. We thank you all for your investment in the Institute. This is your Institute, and we invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy what you have designed!

From Executive Director, Marilyn Humiston

Welcome to our 13th season. It is indeed our "lucky" season- lucky that Ed Boyce and David Halen not only had the vision but the drive and persistence to bring the Institute to fruition. The next nine days gather extraordinary faculty and musicians together to mentor, inspire and share their wealth of knowledge and remarkable talents with 50 gifted and enthusiastic students in our most gorgeous, peaceful environment. With a wide variety of performances each day and every evening, you will fill your soul and your hearts with music.

It does indeed take a village to raise a child- our Institute. It requires hard work, incredible energy and a team that collaborates to see our Academy develop into maturity. From our administration, faculty and board to our sponsors, corporation and host families, we proudly offer our students and you with memories and experiences to last a lifetime.

From Artistic Director, David Halen

The talented artists, administrative staff, the generous volunteers, host families, board members and Innsbrook Corporation welcome you to another exciting musical summer! Many people have worked tirelessly to make the festival once again a reality. We are featuring an incredible cadre of performers and programs that are exciting and entertaining. This year's concerts are based on bringing you the most powerful music one can hear live from the most delicate and intimate to the bombastic Beethoven seventh! The growing youthful talent represents an exciting, inspiring glimpse of the future. It is a crucial component of what makes the Institute an important, positive learning experience in the idyllic pastoral setting here at Innsbrook.
