TERM 2: December 2017 CHIPPING NORTON SCHOOL CNSNewsletter CNS rated ‘Good’ with an "Outstanding" HEAD’S LINES The snow has now all but melted and it seems to be a Sixth Form little warmer as we move towards the shortest day of the year. It has been a momentous year for Chipping Norton School and has fittingly ended with Ofsted judging the quality of education offered as ‘Good’ with an ‘Outstanding’ sixth form and ‘Outstanding’ personal development and welfare. The Ofsted visitors were quick to recognise what we know: that the Students, parents, staff and governors are celebrating Chipping Norton School quality of learning being recognised as a "Good" school with some "Outstanding" areas following its is firmly rooted in latest Ofsted inspection. what happens in The Ofsted report recognises the many exceptional characteristics of the the classroom. Pupil Place Plan 2019-2023
Oxfordshire County Council Pupil Place Plan 2019-2023 November 2019 For 2019/20, the DfE has approved a change in primary school planning areas for Oxfordshire. Several of the previous planning areas have been subdivided into smaller areas, to support more detailed planning. This Pupil Place Plan is structured according to the larger areas – e.g. “Abingdon” – but comments have been made relating to the smaller sub-areas – e.g. “Abingdon East” – where appropriate. Pupil forecasts at sub-area level have been provided in the Annex. The list of schools starting on page 43 indicates which planning area each is in. TTE Co-Ordinates Drugs Focus Fortnight Across West Oxfordshire Schools
Case Study TTE co-ordinates drugs Focus Fortnight across West Oxfordshire schools across the WOLP schools taking part, deliver co-ordinated PSHE sessions on drugs for all Key Stage 3 to 5 pupils, follow up sessions with the School Nurse for those who wanted one-to-one discussions and three drug awareness evening events for parents. Solution Ben Lovatt, Lead Consultant at The Training Effect (TTE), had worked previously with several of the Background schools that make up the WOLP, delivering student The Training Effect (TTE) has recently worked with workshops. Issue 394 February 2017 50p Wake up call More issues for Chippy’s NHS users Future of Horton and maternity units With crisis and funding issues hitting the NHS and Social Care, Chipping Norton is being urged to ‘wake up’. (See Page 2 and Letters). In January a new Big Consultation started about changes to Oxfordshire’s health services. First is a proposed major shake up at the Horton, including all its maternity services. The future of Chippy’s own Cotswold Birth Centre is also on the table – but our Midwives stress it’s ‘business as usual’. What next for Community Hospitals? The NHS says more of the County’s smaller community hospitals could close – in favour of fewer larger units. Local demands to reinstate Chippy’s NHS-run ‘community hospital beds’ could be a big challenge. Consultation on this, together with GP and A&E services has been delayed until June – angering local campaigners and our MP. MP wants proper Chippy meeting There’s an official NHS Town Hall meeting on 2 February (see page 2), but dissatisfaction with the rushed and limited consultation process has provoked our MP Robert Courts to organise his own public meeting in Chipping Norton as soon as possible, to ensure we get a proper say. Traffic Sensitive Streets – Briefing Sheet Introduction Oxfordshire County Council has a legal duty to coordinate road works across the county, including those undertaken by utility companies. As part of this duty we can designate certain streets as ‘traffic-sensitive’, which means on these roads we can better regulate the flow of traffic by managing when works happen. For example, no road works in the centre of Henley-on-Thames during the Regatta. Sensitive streets designation is not aimed at prohibiting or limiting options for necessary road works to be undertaken. Instead it is designed to open-up necessary discussions with relevant parties to decide when would be the best time to carry out works. Criteria For a street to be considered as traffic sensitive it must meet at least one of the following criteria as set out in the table below: Traffic sensitive street criteria A The street is one on which at any time, the county council estimates traffic flow to be greater than 500 vehicles per hour per lane of carriageway, excluding bus or cycle lanes B The street is a single carriageway two-way road, the carriageway of which is less than 6.5 metres wide, having a total traffic flow of not less than 600 vehicles per hour C The street falls within a congestion charges area D Traffic flow contains more than 25% heavy commercial vehicles E The street carries in both directions more than eight buses per hour F The street is designated for pre-salting by the county council as part of its programme of winter maintenance G The street is within 100 metres of a critical signalised junction, gyratory or roundabout system H The street, or that part of a street, has a pedestrian flow rate at any time of at least 1300 persons per hour per metre width of footway I The street is on a tourist route or within an area where international, national, or significant major local events take place. -
