CATWALK: Strike a Pose by Deborah Gregory
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Dominique Cimina On sale September 8, 2009 [email protected] / 212-782-9314 A STYLISH READ FOR BUDDING FASHIONISTAS AND FUTURE DESIGNERS CATWALK: Strike a Pose by Deborah Gregory “A high energy journey through the world of fashion high school as seen through the sparkling eyes of several feisty fashionistas.” —Essence Magazine on Catwalk ______________________________________________________________________________ Delacorte Press Books for Young Readers is proud to publish the second book in Deborah Gregory’s Catwalk series, which follows a multi-ethnic group of four teen girls at the fictional Fashion International High School in Manhattan. CATWALK: Strike a Pose (on sale September 8, 2009 / $8.99 / ages 10 up) follows the release of Catwalk (June 2008). CATWALK: Strike a Pose picks up where Catwalk left off and features Gregory’s bouncy, smart, and sassy tone, and a fashion world fit for teens and tweens. Pashmina, Angora, Aphro, and Felinez—best friends and budding fashionistas—have joined together as the “House of Pashmina” and have entered the annual Catwalk Competition at Fashion International High School. Each year, students split up into fashion houses and compete to design, produce, and show fully original fashion lines. The winner gets a scholarship, a professional show, a trip abroad, and a real shot at a career in fashion. The House of Pashmina is hard at work designing its first fashion line in CATWALK: Strike a Pose, and the pressure is mounting. The intensity is heightened by a Teen Style Network reality show that documents the students’ every move along the way. As the competition heats up, Pashmina and her team face pressures that threaten their chance for fashion stardom and puts their skills to the test. -

REVIEW 2013 - 2014 Dear Friend of Randall’S Island Park
REVIEW 2013 - 2014 Dear Friend of Randall’s Island Park, Thank you for your interest in Randall’s Island Park. As Co-Chairs of the Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA) Board of Trustees, we invite you to enjoy our 2013-2014 Review. RIPA’s continued success in reaching our goals comes through the great work and generosity of our many partners and supporters – a true Alliance in support of the Park’s programs, fields, facilities and natural areas. You will find in the following pages photos and acknowledgements of the many local program partners, donors, volunteers, elected officials and City and State agencies who have helped to bring us to this point. We are especially grateful to the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation for extraordinary support and guidance throughout our successful partnership of more than 20 years. Following its recent transformation, Randall’s Island Park’s visibility continues to grow, and more and more New Yorkers are visiting its shores. Our fellow Board Members, challenged and inspired by what the Park can be, continue to contribute countless hours and crucial support. In 2014 the Board undertook a comprehensive plan for improvement and expansion of our free public programs. Visits to the Island have nearly doubled in recent years, to approximately 3 million! We expect our increased free programming will continue to expand our universe of visitors and friends. Many thanks to these millions of fans who visit and who compliment the Park through positive feedback on our social media, sharing photos and observations, and who help us to grow our Alliance every day. -

Teamup AUDL Power Rankings
TeamUp Fantasy AUDL Power Rankings (7/8 - 7/14) https://www.teamupfantasy.com/ 1. Chicago Union The Union have earned the number one spot this week. They are now 5-0 after their win against the Radicals. Chicago's offense has so many weapons and they manage to take smart shots. In their game this past weekend, their defense played better than they have before. If they keep up this level of play they will have a good shot at the title. 2. DC Breeze DC is moving up a spot this week. Last weekend they beat the Empire in impressive fashion. They won by three, but New York scored a couple goals in the final minutes of the game. DC’s offense performed extremely well - as they always do - and their defense managed to get a ton of run through Ds. 3. New York Empire New York is stepping down from their pedestal this week. After being at the top for the first five weeks of the season, the Empire lost to the Breeze. The Empire allowed the Breeze to get too many run through Ds that could have been fixed. The Empire are still a great team and are still scary to face. 4. Raleigh Flyers The Flyers managed to beat the Cannons last week. With that being said, they are staying in the number four spot this week. They have another game against the Cannons next week, which should be another easy win. This team has a lot of potential to make it deep into the playoffs this year. -

CHAPTER 1 Introduction This Study of World Literature Begins Where Many
CHAPTER 1 Introduction This study of world literature begins where many do: with Goethe, but then it will go backwards from Goethe before it goes forward. The term world literature itself derives from Goethe’s neologism Weltliteratur, recorded by his personal secretary Johann Peter Eckermann from a conversation one night over dinner: “National literature is now rather an unmeaning term; the epoch of World-literature is at hand, and everyone must strive to hasten its approach” (165). The newness of the term is evidenced in John Oxenford’s 1930 translation by the hyphenation that brings the compound concept over from German into English. World literature is now a commonplace in English, although what exactly it is remains a matter of debate, allowing for such titles as David Damrosch’s book in 2003: What Is World Literature? But what Goethe means by world literature or what “we” mean by world literature today is not entirely my concern here—at least not yet—and this is where I go backwards from his neologism. In Eckermann’s account, the conversation in which Goethe lets slip the word that will create a new field of study begins thus: “Within the last few days, since I saw you,” said he, “I have read many things; especially a Chinese novel, which occupies me still and seems to me very remarkable.” “Chinese novel!” said I; “that must look strange enough.” “Not so much as you might think,” said Goethe; “the Chinamen [sic] think, act, and feel almost exactly like us…” (164) 1 Goethe goes on to explain the similarities and differences he finds between the “us” he refers to and Chinese writing and culture it represents, drawing connections between the Chinese text he has read and his own Hermann and Dorothea as well as the novels of Richardson and the Chansons de Béranger.
