Fekete Péter kultúráért felelős államtitkár greeting In theatre and film arts, it is the actors and directors that stand in the blinding limelight, they are the ones that the public celebrate, who are taken photos of walking on the red carpet, and professional papers and tabloids are full of interviews with them. If one hears a film title, the cultured audience usually know when it was made, who the director was and who starred in it. However, it is unusual if someone knows the name of the scriptwriter, the cinematographer, the editor, or who composed the enchanting music in the film. It is even more remarkable if someone can recall who designed the costumes, the sets and who is responsible for the visual eects or who the sound editor was. The often outstanding representatives of the background jobs rarely appear on the front pages of the newspapers, we know very little of them although there is no theatre or film art without their dedication and professionalism. They are the ones creating the worlds, where characters come to life. Without them, there is no world, the actor is naked in front of the blank wall. In consequence, it is great pleasure to see the theme of this year’s ART/FILM Festival: for a week, production designers get the greatest attention in Szolnok. Not to mention the invited living legends, the attendees of their masterclasses and the professional who have and will conjure up amazingly complex and rich visual worlds for us. Péter Fekete State Secretary of Culture 3 GREETING KÖSZÖNTŐ Alexandre Traunert méltán tartjuk a filmtörténet egyik, ha nem a legnagyobb díszlet- tervezőjének. E számos műalkotás vonulatában a kiváló díszlettervező helyét olykor a korszak nagy festőjének alakja veszi át. Didier Naert, fővédnök greeting Alexandre Trauner is rightly considered to be one of the best production designers in the world. He contributed to the production of several dozens of outstanding films. The lasting memory of his works does not fade with years passing. In the process of creating art works, the figure of the brilliant production designer is replaced by that of the great painter of the era. His original profession was painting. He was born in Budapest in 1906, and he left Hungary during Horthy’s regime in order to settle in Paris, in the city of Bonnard, Vuillard and Matisse, who he liked a lot. Today’s salute to his work and activity in his native country must be a really important moment. Film history can be grateful to him as after wandering into a Paris studio, he remained stuck there for 50 years and had the opportunity to build up an international career. He did not like the term production designer since it is not expressive enough, but he looked at his activity in a sober and objective way. His attitude to space, perspectives, colours and lights in film production counts as a standard for young production designers even nowadays. This year the festival has a special focus on production designers and art directors, so I would like his person to always stay as a valuable point of reference in the film production of all times. Didier Naert, patron 4 ZSŰRI EURÓPAI EGÉSZESTÉS FILMEK VERSENYPROGRAM Didier Naert, francia látványtervező Fesztiválunk fővédnöke névadónk, Alexandre Trauner nevelt fia.
