USA (25 March 2015) – The IALD is pleased to welcome the following Professional-level members to the IALD. IALD Professional membership is available to architectural lighting designers who have at least five years of experience in the field in the role of senior designer or above in an independent consulting practice. IALD members worldwide must meet the highest educational and ethical standards in order to belong to this prestigious community, and are accepted as Professional members on the strength of their portfolios and recommendations. The following members were accepted to the IALD between 20 February and 20 March 2015: TA-WEI LIN, IALD Principal CMA Lighting Design Taipei City, Taiwan www.cmalighting.com.tw Ta-Wei Lin is principal at CMA Lighting Design formerly CWI Lighting Design Inc. in Taipei City, Taiwan. He established CWI in 1993 and later embarked on a new era with a new name and perspective with CMA Lighting design in 2011. After receiving a Bachelor of Architecture from Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan and an M.S. in Interior Design from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY USA, Ta-Wei worked as project assistant at H.M. Brandston & Partners and later as a lighting designer at Fisher Marantz Stone, both in New York City, NY USA. He also studied industrial design at the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy. In his 25 years of lighting design expertise, Ta-Wei has received several international awards, including an IALD Award of Excellence in 2003 and two Awards of Excellence at the International Illumination Awards in 2006 and 2012. His essays and related projects have been published in Detail in Contemporary Lighting Design (Laurence King, 2012), City of Light-Two Centuries of Urban Illumination (Routledge, 2015), and Smart Light Art-Design and Architecture for Cities (Thames & Hudson, 2015). Ta-Wei was an Associate Professor at Shi-Jyan University's Architecture Department for 20 years and has been invited to speak at conferences and workshops in Goa, New Delhi, Singapore, Rotterdam, Seoul, Istanbul, Milan and the Las Vegas Light Fair. He was a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and former member of the PLDA. #MORE# 1 JULIETTE NIELSEN, IALD Senior Lighting Designer and Co-owner Beersnielsen Lichtontwerpers Rotterdam, the Netherlands www.beersnielsen.nl Juliette Nielsen is senior lighting designer and co- owner of Beersnielsen Lichtontwerpers, a lighting design studio with firm the belief that ‘lighting is about people and not about lux levels’. Juliette established Beersnielsen in 2012 in Rotterdam with partner Sjoerd van Beers, IALD. Born in Malaga, Spain, Juliette was first introduced to lighting design during her studies in interior design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Following her graduation in 1997, Juliette began working as a lighting designer at Hollands Licht, where she worked for Rogier van der Heide on a variety of international projects, including the Science Museum in London and ‘Mind Zone’ within the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, England. She later worked for Atelier LEK. Juliette is an organizer of lighting workshops and lectures frequently as a guest speaker at conferences and universities – these have included the LED Forum in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Delt University of Technology in Delft, the Netherlands; and ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Zwolle, the Netherlands. Juliette was a former member of the Professional Lighting Designers PAMELA PADRUNO, IALD Senior Lighting Designer and Managing Partner Diseño Iluminación Arquitectura Verde (DIAV) Santiago, Chile www.diav.cl Pamela Padruno is senior lighting designer and managing partner of Diseño Iluminación Arquitectura Verde (DIAV) in Santiago, Chile. She has been a managing partner at DIAV since 2010. Pamela has over 13 years of professional experience in architecture and lighting design combined. After years of studying and working as an architect, she discovered an inherit passion for lighting that led her to pursue a Post Graduate degree in Lighting Design at Duoc Uc Sede Antonio Varas (DUOCUC) in Santiago Metropolitan, Chile. Soon after, she received a Master of Science degree in Arquitectural Lighting Design from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden in 2009. Along the way, her international experience in small and large scale projects, including residential, retail, hotel, institutions, and civic projects have resulted in several lighting design awards, including an IES Illumination Award of Merit in 2012 and another in 2013. She has also been shortlisted in the EMAR Lighting Design Awards in London. #MORE# 2 As a former professional member of the PLDA, Pamela has long been involved with the lighting community and lighting education. She is currently a titular professor at DUOCUC highly involved in education programs for students in lighting design. SJOERD VAN BEERS, IALD Senior Lighting Designer and Co-owner Beersnielsen Lichtontwerpers Rotterdam, the Netherlands www.beersnielsen.nl Educated as an industrial design engineer and architect, Sjoerd van Beers graduated cum laude with a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Design Engineering at the Delt University of Technology in Delt, the Netherlads in 2002. In 2004, after being approached to join the project team leading the night lighting improvement project of the main boulevard in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, he discovered a passion for lighting design. He then went on to work on a variety of lighting projects before founding Atelier LEK in Rotterdam in 2005. In 2012, Sjoerd joined forces with Juliette Nielsen, IALD, and established Beernsnielsen Lichtonwerpers in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Beernsnielsen is a lighting design firm specializing in creative interior and exterior lighting, as well as museum and art lighting installations. He is a senior lighting designer at the firm. "We like to do everything that has to do with light and people, but we try to avoid doing the "boring" stuff", says Sjoerd of their work.
