(Sajjad HUSSAIN / AFP) Israel’s ambassador to India said Sunday that Iran is a possible suspect in a bomb attack on the Israeli embassy in Delhi last week, which was close enough that it was felt in the mission and could have caused much more damage. A bombing near the embassy Friday blew out the windows on three nearby cars, but did not cause any casualties. Indian and Israeli authorities are investigating it as a likely attack directed against the embassy. “We do know so far that it was a terror act aimed at the Israeli embassy in New Delhi, but the investigation is ongoing,” Ron Malka told The Times of Israel. “The explosion was heard clearly inside the embassy; it was very close, a few meters,” Malka said. “It could have ended differently and caused a lot of damage.” National Security Guard soldiers inspect the site of a blast near the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi, India, Jan. 30, 2021 (AP Photo/Dinesh Joshi) Indian media reports said investigators had found an envelope with a letter addressed to the Israeli ambassador in the street describing the low-intensity explosion as a “trailer” and making references to “Iranian martyrs” Qassem Soleimani and Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. “We can end your life, anytime, anywhere,” the letter read. “Currently it is impossible to know for certain who the perpetrators were,” Malka added. “Iran is an option. But… we have to wait for an investigation and conclusions.” Soleimani, considered Iran’s most powerful military commander, was killed in a US drone strike in January 2020. Fakhrizadeh, one of the country’s top nuclear scientists, was killed in November — an assassination for which Iran blamed Israel. Indian police forensics experts investigating the scene after an explosion tore through a car belonging to the Israel Embassy in New Delhi, India (photo credit: AP/Kevin Frayer/File) In 2012, Prime Minister Benjamin blamed Iran for a bomb attack on an Israeli diplomatic car in Delhi that injured at least three people. Hebrew-language media reported that a group called “Jaish ul-Hind” claimed responsibility for the Friday explosion in a statement posted on the Telegram messaging service. According to a report by the Walla news site, the statement said the attack, which took place on the 29th anniversary of India-Israel ties, was in fact an act of revenge against the Indian government and that further attacks were expected, but with no mention of Israel. “I have not heard of this organization to date. It is unfamiliar, from what I gather,” Malka said. “The Indians are conducting an investigation of how serious it is.” He refused to confirm an Israeli report that the Mossad was also involved in the investigation. Malka said the embassy was already on high alert before the attack due to “threats.” He said that while diplomats were being cautious, they had not been cowed into shutting down activities. By UDI SHAHAM FEBRUARY 1, 2021 01:23 Defense Minister Benny Gantz speaks to Egyptian TV (photo credit: TAL OZ/DEFENSE MINISTRY/POLICE SPOKESPERSON'S UNIT) As tensions between Israel and Iran intensify, Defense Minister Benny Gantz said that options are on the tables for making sure that the Islamic Republic does not become nuclear. The defense minister said in an on al-Ghad channel that "Israel has a clear objective: that Iran not become nuclear. It is not just an Israeli interest. It is first and foremost a global and regional interest. “The IDF and Israel’s defense establishment are holding onto the option of taking action against Iran's nuclear project if that is what has to be done. I hope it doesn’t come to that,” Gantz said. Gantz then echoed remarks made by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi last week, and said that a nuclear Iran would lead to a nuclear arms race throughout the Middle East. “The regime is fundamentalist and radical and ultimately wants to obtain nuclear capability not just to have it, but primarily for the leverage it would give them in nuclear deterrence. I want the public in Iran to understand me: I don’t have anything against them. Iranian citizens deserve a normal life like every other human being. But the regime’s support of terrorism, of Hezbollah, of the Houthis demands action." Responding to a question on possible Iranian civil nuclear generation, Gantz said: "If you wanted to develop a nuclear capability for medical purposes, would you have to hide it underground? Would you need to deny access to inspectors? We know the Iranians are trying to develop nuclear weapons and we will not allow that to happen. " Alghadis and Egyptian TV station broadcasting from Cairo. According to the Defense Ministry, it was a first-ever interview of an Israeli minister in the station.- Journalist Nazir Majli interviewed with Gantz in his office, at the Tel Aviv Defense Ministry headquarters. The interview focused on several topics such as Iran, the new American administration, the challenges and opportunities in the region as well as the upcoming elections. When Gantz was asked about a possible future regional war, he replied: "Unfortunately, any future war in our region would involve many civilians; it wouldn’t be just a military-to-military confrontation. “Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas and the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip aim their missiles towards populated areas in Israel – threatening Arab and Jewish communities alike. Eventually, we will have to attack missiles that are being stored within civilian populations. This is verified intelligence, and we saw the repercussions of such reckless practice by Hezbollah in the port of Beirut." Gantz was asked about intelligence capabilities, and replied it keeps maintaining “superior intelligence throughout the Middle East and, in certain respects, throughout the world.” “We do not use it for any purpose other than ensuring Israel's security,” he said.

Jared Kushner Reportedly Briefs Incoming National Security Adviser on Trump's Middle East Policy by Mary F. US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior White House adviser Jared Kushner was responsible for leading the “Peace to Prosperity” plan, an attempt by the Trump administration to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The plan, repeatedly refused by Palestinian leaders, was unveiled by the White House on January 28, 2020. Kushner has briefed incoming national security adviser Jake Sullivan on the Trump administration's policies in the Middle East, David Friedman, the US ambassador to Israel, confirmed Monday during a closed hearing in the Israeli parliament, Axios reported. According to Friedman, Kushner briefed Sullivan on the Abraham Accords process, through which the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain normalized diplomatic relations with Israel last year in negotiations mediated by the United States. Sudan and Morocco have agreed to similar deals with Israel. The Abraham Accords marked the first public normalization of relations between any Arab country and Israel since 1979 and 1994, when Egypt and Jordan, respectively, signed peace treaties with Israel. During the meeting, Trump advisers expressed hope that US President-elect Joe Biden will continue to encourage the normalization of relations with Israel by Arab countries like Saudi Arabia, Axios reported.

  • President Trump Peace Strategy: Emerging Conflict Between Israel and Palestine
International Affairs and Global Strategy www.iiste.org ISSN 2224-574X (Paper) ISSN 2224-8951 (Online) Vol.82, 2020 President Trump Peace Strategy: Emerging Conflict Between Israel and Palestine Jibrin Ubale Yahaya, PhD Department of Political Science, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Jabi Abuja Abstract When Donald Trump was elected as US President in November 2016, he initially signaled some real hope for the peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Some analysts argued that he may actually manage to deliver what he calls "the deal of the century" and bring peace to Israel and Palestine. These assumptions were based on the fact that President Trump is the type of person that could wake up one morning, say "enough", and pressure Israeli and Palestinian leaders to sign a peace deal on his terms. Early on in his presidency, Trump made the conflict a strategic priority and unconventionally chose to go to the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Israel and Palestine) on his first trip abroad as President. During a press conference with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem, he said that "if Israel and the Palestinians can make peace, it will begin a process of peace all throughout the Middle East." This was in line with Europe's standard inside-out approach (Israeli-Palestinian peace first, Israeli-Arab normalization later). But on December 2019, Trump made it clear that his much-anticipated peace deal will favour Israel when he recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and promised to move the US embassy there. This led Abbas to brand Trump's peace efforts as "the slap of the century" and say the US could no longer play any role in the Middle East peace process following the move.

  • Ambassadors of UAE and Bahrain on Their New Peace with Israel
WTH is going on with peace in the Middle East II? Ambassadors of UAE and Bahrain on their new peace with Israel Episode #72 | October 1, 2020 | Danielle Pletka, Marc Thiessen, Amb. Yousef Al Otaiba, and Amb. Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa Danielle Pletka: Hi, I'm Danielle Pletka. Marc Thiessen: I'm Marc Thiessen. Danielle Pletka: going on? Marc Thiessen: Well, we've got part two of our podcast series this week on the historic peace deals with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain and Israel and the United States. This is, as you've said, one of the most seismic events in the history of the Middle East. And maybe it's because of who brought it about and people who don't like him, or maybe it's because we've moved on to the fight over the Supreme Court, and we're in the middle of an election. But this deserves a lot more attention than it's gotten. We've got the ambassadors of the UAE and Bahrain here today. Can you ever have imagined, when we started this podcast, that we'd have the ambassadors of Israel, UAE and Bahrain with us on the podcast, talking about peace? Danielle Pletka: As I said in the interview with the Israeli ambassador as well, this is truly ... It's a watershed. And it is a mark of a change in the Middle East that I don't think anyone would have predicted. And that the professional class of Middle East peace processors has never managed to achieve.

Instead, it is risking the further escalation of an already tensed situation and the acceleration of the erosion of joint conflict management. Even under intense pressure, the leadership of Palestine rejected the U.S deal along with any further mediation by Washington. However, more than 100 Congress-members joined leaders around the world opposed it. The Trump deal, which was negotiated with the Prime Minister of Israel Netanyahu in the absence of the Palestinian leadership, among others, include acknowledging Jerusalem (al-Quds) as the undivided capital of Israel and allows Israel to annex illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank involving about 600,000 settlers living in 122 settlements, Jordan Valley (Palestine's eastern borders with Jordan), as well as refusing the right of return for Palestinian refugees. It is not a “Peace Plan” by including a Palestinian state, but it is somewhat a roadmap to legitimize the policy of Israel for encroachment and land expropriation.Conveniently, the deal is presented at a time that detracts attention from the corruption charges of the current Israeli Prime Minister and the U.S President’s impeachment.

  • Peace According to Real Estate Dealers
No. 102 25 October 2019 PEACE ACCORDING TO REAL ESTATE DEALERS Patrycja Sasnal* If it is Benjamin Netanyahu who will again form the next Israeli government, the “peace plan” prepared by Jared Kushner may be the shovel with which Bibi buries the Palestinian cause. What stands in the way of such an outcome is not so much the European Union (EU) but rather Israeli civil society. Most details of the hyped peace plan for the Israelis and Palestinians, prepared over the course of almost three years by the Trump administration, are unknown: what is in it, when it will be announced, and who, if anyone, will sit down to negotiate. By 1 November the main American negotiator Jason Greenblatt, responsible for preparing the plan, will step down. If the plan was expected to be announced soon and a success, Greenblatt would not be going, allowing the glory to fall on others. The Israelis just held second elections to the Knesset this year, and it remains to be seen if Benny Gantz, Netanyahu’s main opponent, manages to form a government or Israelis go to the polls for the third time before the end of the year. But even if the plan is not announced soon, it deserves a closer look because of what it says about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the role of the EU and other Arab states in it and the political class of the Middle East. For the past quarter of a century the only constructive agreement the Israelis signed with the Palestinians were the Oslo Accords of 1993, after which the Palestinian Autonomy was created.
