1. The Library and the park of August Spångberg with the bell tower.

Please come in and visit our library with its lovely exhibit hall where you will often find the work of artists from Värmland. The park that is connected to the library was named after a man who was widely known in Eda municipality for many years, August Spångberg (1893-1987).

He was born in Nora and arrived in Värmland by the age of 12. He was early on very involved in the temperance movement and went on to become politically active. In 1921 he became the youngest person ever to be voted into the Swedish parliament for the communist party. In 1938 he joined the social democrats instead and remained a member of parliament until he retired in 1963. He was also very active in the peace organization here in Eda.

The bell tower in the park belongs to Eda congregation and was designed by the architect Karl Martin Westerberg, Stockholm 1949. It was inaugurated march 24, 1957 by Bishop Gert Borgenstierna. The bell tower has two bells, the large one weighs 600 kg, and has the inscription; “Sing to the Lords honor a new song, sing to the Lords honor every land”. The smaller bell weighs 375 kg and has the inscription; “Ring the shadows of darkness away from every land”. Both of the bells were cast by Gösta Bergholtz in Stockholm.

At two different occassions, 1958 and 1960, the club got to arrange SM (Swedish Championship) in ski jumping.

13. Morast Skans In 1644, during the ongoing war with Denmark-Norway, they made a redoubt to create a “lock” on Kungsvägen (The King's Road), the ancient road between and Norway. It was strategically placed with Vrångsälven as a natural mote, and the western flank protected by steep ravines. Unfortunately it didn't turn out to be impregnable. Shortly after it was risen, it was taken over by Norwegian forces. This led to the redoubt not being used when it came to future attacks, instead they focused on building a fortification a little bit further from the border, on the top of a hill by the lake Bysjön, Eda Skans. It is now restored and well worth a visit, just like the museum, Eda Skans Museum in Åmotfors, where you can see and learn a lot about the feuds around the border. 14. Charlottenbergs iron foundry

This iron foundry was built next to a rapid in the river Vrångsälven in Morast, and was therefore given the name Morastfors bruk. The river collects its water in Norway, crosses the border at Eda Glasbruk and run into the lake Hugn. In 1827 the field accountant L.D Larsson was given the privilege of erecting a hammer and two hearths, and two years later the work began. Field accountant Larsson already owned seven different foundries at this time, of which one was located in Norway. His wife's name was Charlotta Berg, and to honor her he asked that the name of this place would be changed to Charlottenberg. However, in 1834 , the iron foundry went bankrupt and the following few years would be troubled with many new owners taking over. By the mid 1850's the iron foundry received a better management when iron master Johan Olof Sundström took over. Some important developments took place which led Charlottenberg to be one of the biggest iron foundries in Värmland. After Sundströms passing in 1889, the production of nails and other goods dropped significantly. The state of the market wasn't the best either at that time. A wood shop was built in 1894, and for a time the foundry lived on, until a fire completely destroyed it in 1906. The old mansion with its detached wings still stands. It is placed by the old kings road in Norway.

20. Järnvägen och järnvägsparken To connect the two capitals in Sweden and Norway with a railroad was something that was planned very early on. After many years of investigation, in both countries, who was then a union, the Nordvästra stambanan (the northwestern railroad) was completed in 1871. It came to mean a great deal to the trade industry in this part of Värmland, and the station town Charlottenberg became, in just a few decades, an important trading center. Before, Charlottenberg was associated with the iron foundry at Vrångsälven.
